Uplifting, Encouraging, Positive, & Just Plain GOOD
Definitely a unique movie, that's for sure. Bella is a very hard movie to describe - this is one movie you just kind of have to see to even have a clue what it's about. What I can say is that it has the following as key themes:- How our lives can change in a moment and take us radically different directions than we planned- Strong pro-life & pro-adoption message without being too in-your-face preachy.- The importance of truly caring about and engaging with the people all around us - i.e. finding out their "story"- Reaching beyond your own pain to help someone else (and in the process, helping yourself)- The importance of family and faith- A positive view of latino culture without many of the standard stereotypes found in other moviesThis is an emotionally moving, ultimately uplifting film that has a very "real" quality to it, which is fairly rare. It was filmed/produced in a "modern" way so there's more jerky camera movement, etc. which did grate on me a tad (i.e. it got old quick), but did contribute to the "real" quality and help draw you into the story (and thus the characters). The acting was quite impressive! This is not a "preachy" movie with words so much as it preaches with its story. It allows you to see and discover the message yourself as it plays out. This movie is not "overtly Christian", though many of its key themes as shown above are ones that are very supportive and positive for Christians. As for things that concerned me: Like a number of films, this one has an undercurrent that God wants or causes the hurt and pain we see in our world. In this film's case though, it's a pretty mild undercurrent except for 1 scene where a blind guy is holding a sign that says something like "God made me blind, now I can truly see." (which while an interesting statement, is a bit unfair to assume God's the one that actively caused the blindness/wants him blind, etc.) Other than that, the only thing that really threw me off a bit with this film is that it seemed very rushed at the end. So much so that I actually briefly wondered if I had accidentally pressed the "forward" button on my remote and skipped some scenes (I didn't). It seemed like another 5-10 minutes or so could have really helped fill in a bit more at the end. With that said, the ending still "worked" and made its point effectively. All things considered, this is a unique movie that has a "modern" and "realistic" flavor that won't appeal to everyone, but is an engaging, positive, uplifting movie in the final analysis.MoviesForChristians Movie Reviewslaughandlift dot com/moviesforchristians

Bland movie with veiled anti-choice message
This is my first Amazon review ever. i have bought many movies and other products from Amazon and have never been compelled to write a review until now.I was drawn in by all the wonderful reviews and the #1 movie ratings from critics. If you look carefully however, you can't read the names/ organizations giving it #1 reviews on the DVD box/cover (as i learned after watching the movie and wondered who in the world would recommend this). So yes I was conned into buying this based on the reviews and the storyline which implied a surprising and moving ending....I had high hopes during the first few minutes of the film with close-ups of a man's red dance shoes, a Latino soccer star as a character, and nice camerawork following two friends in a beautiful sports car...After the first 5 minutes, the movie became predictable and bland. The story was told in a very linear, obvious, manner (with occasional flashbacks to feign edginess). It felt like a made-for-tv special. This could have just been an amateurish movie if it wasn't for the propaganda.SPOILER:So what is this movie about. A young man on the verge of having a wonderful life accidentally runs over and kills a beautiful young girl. He is haunted by regret. The movie revolves around this man's relationship (several years later) with a woman who works at his & his brother's restaurant who is suddenly pregnant and considering an abortion. At this point, the dialogue, storyline, and director's choices becoming lazy and straight out of an Anti-Choice/Pro-Life propaganda film. You hear how she is single and not ready for a child, you see Close-ups of the young man's soulful blue eyes as he suggests adoption, fantasy flash forwards of them at an abortion clinic, flashbacks of bright red blood on his hands from the dead girl from the car accident, back to finding out that his brother was adopted. Throw in cheesy, and heavy handed movie soundtrack choices letting us all know that god clearly has a vested interest in this decision. I won't bore you all with the very predictable dialogue, minor character's roles, and story wasted in the interest of the Grand Message: Abortion= Lifelong Regret= Homicide= Loss of Storybook Ending (but I get ahead of myself).I have to admit that i I felt I had wasted enough time halfway through the movie that I felt compelled to watch. I wondered how elegantly/subtlety they could navigate through the rest of the movie. The movie ends with the woman "meeting" the daughter that she would have aborted. I might have misunderstood the plot at this point but the message was clear: abortion is equivalent to murder and every aborted child would have been a beautiful blond girl frolicking in the sand under beautiful blue skies, with adoring parents, and with an uplifting soundtrack as accompaniment.Do not get fooled like I did. If you are looking for a feel good, white bread, Anti-choice move, then this is definitively the movie for you ( you might want to check out the similarly objective movie 2016 about Obama). If you were hoping for a hidden gem, a good independent movie that you somehow had missed in the theaters, then STOP and do NOT BUY this movie. There are many other good choices here on Amazon.
