The boken is constructed of oak with a dark stained finish. The handle of the boken is wrapped in a nylon cord, just as a katana would be. The boken has been constructed with a high detail to replicate the look and feel of a katana, with a kissak at the end of the tip and a pentagonal spine and blade.

A fixer upper
The shipping and packaging were fine but there were multiple imperfections in the wood sealing as well as a chipped point. It is a fair quality wood. I only use it for practice and not to hit anything solid I just stripped it, sanded it, sealed it, buffed and finished it with polyurethane. So if you like doing some wood work (I do) then buy this if not then chose one of the other bokken.

Nice for the price
To go in accordance w/the forza sword workout dvd I just received, I ordered another inexpensive bokken from the amazon, (while unbeknownst to me my husband ordered this one for me as a belated xmas gift.) -And while the one I ordered is nice enough... (although w/a few unpleasant imperfections and marks in the wood) -I actually like the weight and appearance of this one much better. It's a bit lighter, and has a much prettier and more natural coloration and wood grain... (I mean just from looking at it, (and without being told first) I even guessed it to be oak...) -While I haven't done workout yet, the sword I received I thought was nice enough (especially considering the price,) and I like it.
