Really good! Very good transfers
Really good! Very good transfers! My only complaint is the surface noise to "Blue Moon"; it's quite disturbing. Other than that, I'd say this is a really nice collection of Al's music. This CD contains some of the alternate versions of the hits Al sang(I think someone already mentioned this). The booklet contains a nice brief story of Al's life and the dates the song was recorded and what orchestra backed Al.

Recordings everyone should have!
Many great singers in the 30's - however, in my opinion, the very best is Al. Though the recordings are from a different era, somehow Al manages to make the interpretation seem new. Singing with incredible sincerity and choosing songs in which he can put his personal experiences is something special in any age.

The Al Bowlly Collection 1927-40
This is a wonderful collection of songs, and the production is very good. Its Al Bowlly, and that fact speaks for itself. What more can I say?

Get that 30's 40's vibe
I got interested in the work of Al Bowlly from wondering what the music playing in the ballroom was in "The Shining". There are two songs, the first song is "Midnight, The Stars and You" by Ray Noble & His Orchestra with Al Bowlly vocals the second song is "It's All Forgotten Now" also by Ray Noble & His Orchestra with Al Bowlly vocals. The latter song is on this four CD set. Amazon seems to get confused with what it is selling here. There are four CDs! and they are not CD-Rs. The sound quality is very basic, as you'd expect from 1920s-1940s recording technology. I think the 1920s and early 1930s recordings are from 78s, they suffer from the usual turntable issues (intermodulation distortion, non-linear frequency and dynamic response, inaccurate tracking, dirt, dust, groove scraping, harmonic distortion, limited dynamic range, limited frequency response, frequency and amplitude modulation from groove eccentricity etc.) but so long as you don't put it on demanding hi-fi equipment/headphones it sounds just as it would for my great-great grandparents. Amusingly, my Mac Mini speaker does a fine job of being a 1930s radiogram. This music needs a "British Spring" to give it that lush, huge ballroom reverb from "The Shining" :-)

What a dream
I’m in heaven when I listen to Al Bowlly and the beautiful bands he’s featured with, i.e. Ray Noble & Lew Stone and their bands, mostly. Heard him from a child, but suddenly looked him up and found these gems on Amazon. So pleased.
