Extremely helpful to improve skills
This DVD is very detailed on how the artist does her work, prepares her painting and layers her colors. There is a tremendous amount of planning and work to achieve her skill level that she has shared in this DVD. I have learned a lot by watching this and her other DVDs, and my work is improving through this added knowledge. Yes, she has an accent people, so does the majority of this world! However, I was easily able to understand her without any added effort. As for the sound, yes, the people recording could have done a better job, but turning up the volume helps. To me, it's about the knowledge that she is imparting which is the important part, and I found that tremendously helpful to grow in my skills!

A gifted Artist.....
I was skeptical after reading reviews on this dvd and decided I would try it for myself. Yes, you have to listen carefully. The artist is talented and she imparts a lot of knowledge to her student. One trick that I can't wait to try out is her application of masking fluid with the end of a paint brush. She makes it look really easy and mess free. Do you have any idea how many cheap brushes I have gunked up and fought with trying to apply masking fluid? It is pure craziness, so I look forward to trying her method. And the use of paper plates, this woman has all the practical moves. She gave me a lot of information on this dvd and I thank her for her generous giving of information. I consider this dvd well worth every dollar spent on it.

Many things to learn here~She knows her art!
Soon Warren is a masterful artist. Painting moving water has so many complexities! Ms Warren does an admirable job. It is probably best to actually have your own painting in progress after you watch this once. Much of the work needs to be repetitious. I would have liked it if she had used a smaller painting. I really appreciated what she did with demo~ing painting the koi.I will re-watch this several times. She is one of the very best artists. Her personality did not engage me. Had to recall why I was watching: education not entertainment.

Subtitles, please!
I'm glad I bought the dvd used because it doesn't worth full price. The artist speaks English with a heavy accent and mumbles away during her painting routine. I watched once with sound and a second time without sound at all (and it was better than trying to understand what she said). The artist says, "it takes forever," and it does take forever. She uses a very structured approach that consists of several washes and glazes, meanwhile she doesn't explain her choices of color for underpainting. She also uses a huge amount of masking fluid, which can only be done in professional quality paper such Arches 300lb (cold press). Academia type of papers will be destroyed when the masking is lifted. Moreover, she tried to explain that she used a double-loaded brush (but she kept saying "bottom of the brush"). Do NOT expect "revelations" or good hints that you can use later. This video is just about being patient and loyal to the reference picture in the most text-book style that I have seen. I believe that the producers could provide captions/subtitles for this video; it might improve the overall interest. This is not a video for artists and it is probably not a good introduction to watercolor. I believe this video was made because this painting was in magazine.
