Time for reflection
I was introduced to Susan Lewis last year and since then she forms part of my daily read, whether it is over breakfast, lunch or before I go to sleep. The Hornbeam Tree was a rushed purchase before flying to my destination and it proved an immense aid to my own story of the time. I was dealing with a recent death experience and I found reading this amazing story helped me hide and explore the complexity of relationships under extraordinary life events through the eyes of an other. The feminine relationships delight and uproot your senses at times and you find yourself crying and laughing at once. The life survivial intricacies hold your thought way beyond your last moment of reading. I found myself immersed in the political and human intrigue and could totally relate them to my own world. The beginning, the middle and the end kept my thought in the story and even now I can feel the warmth and energy of hugging the hornbeam tree. If you need a journey of life, this is an excellent partner.

Another suspense filled novel
As usual this book kept me wanting to turn the pages to see when and what will happen next to the characters. Susan's books always keep you not knowing what will happen next as she always throws in a new plot or character to change the story as you go through the chapters

Almost top score!
I have read most of Susan Lewis' books and although I'm having mixed feelings, she is such an amazing writer that I'm always drawn back to her work, even after misgivings. As for "The Hornbeam Tree", this is absolutely one of her best books. It concentrates on the relationship between journalist Katie who is dying of cancer, and her daugther Molly, as well as Katie's sister Michelle. Furthermore the relationships between Michelle & Tom and Laurie & Elliot. The four latter all appearing in previous Susan Lewis books. Both couples are investigating journalists and the book also goes into detail about a top secret political story Tom and Elliot are involved in.However, as for the political story, the word "detail" is imperative. If one is not particularly interested in US and British Intelligence, terrorism and secret plots on the highest political levels, parts of the book are getting much too detailed and tedious to an average writer. As I have said about other Susan Lewis books, this part of "The Hornbeam Tree" is in need of some good editing. But apart from that, the book has brilliant characterization and shows great insight into human relationships, especially in times of strain. As in other Susan Lewis books, also in this one there are too many sexual details. But then again, I am of the opinion that sexual activity, even between people deeply in love, is best hinted at, not desribed in great detail. But all in all, this was a book it was sad to finish. All the main characters were easy to like and hard to leave. And that, I think, is one of the best things to be said about a real fine novel.

Excellent choice .
I gripping read. One of the best by Susan Lewis although I enjoy all of her books. You need your tissues handy but in a nice way as it is a.love story but with up to date information about world affairs which are fictional but bordering on reality.

I am finding it a great read as are all Susan Lewis novels
I have been looking for a copy of this for some time after being recomended by a friend. I am reading it at the moment and am about half way through. I am finding it a great read as are all Susan Lewis novels. This one is particularly interesting as some of it is set in Wiltshire about 10miles from where Ilive. Looking forward to reading the rest.
