Sturdy,attractive,not bulky,perfect!
Love love love this retro chair/stepstool! Name brand, not cheap,BUT so well sturdy and well made! I am only 5’1”, so I need a step stool with 2 steps, and I find the seat so handy when I am making recipes that require constant stirring. My granddaughters love it too! It’s not bulky, but it is very sturdy.. a win-win! Just get it!

Old reliable
Bought to replace a decades old one similar to this. The quality seems just as good as my old one, the finishes are perfect except an area of the top of the back of the chair’s white backrest which has about a 2” black mark (for which I deducted one star). Very sturdy, good directions, easy to assemble. Hopefully I will be able to fix that black mark, but being the absolute final piece in the assembly process, I didn’t see it until I had practically finished the assembly. One and done; I will live with the black mark. Would definitely buy again, but unwrap and inspect every component BEFORE putting any of it together.

The Kitchen Chair
I purchased this 8 months ago but waited a while to write a review so I could see how well this this would perform and I have to tell you it has proven to be a very sturdy well built chair/step stool that has held up beautifully to the rigors of everyday life with a disabled person, me. I knew when I bought this assembly would be required and thought to assign this task to my son, but, he was not available when it arrived and being the impatient person that I am I set myself to the task instead. Surprising I found it to be a fairly simple job given all of the cautionary tales in the reviews here regarding this, the instructions were clear and I did not run into any problems, it took a little time but most things do for me these days. I gave it a home in my kitchen with the job of letting me sit on it while I do the prep work for my meals, cook, eat at the table and wash the dishes. It comes through like a pro by being very sturdy, stable, with a wide seat that makes me feel secure while sitting yet light enough to be easily moved around and small enough to tuck out of the way in my less then spacious kitchen all while displaying it's retro good looks. With limited mobility and a need to take a seat quite often this chair/step stool has been a real blessing for me. The taller height of the chair makes it easier on me to go from sitting to standing and while I am standing in my kitchen the top bar on the chair back has also been very helpful during those times I need a little something to hold on to steady myself. For the price this is fantastic buy one I would happily make again.Update 2022: Still in daily use and it has held up beautifully over the years. Does it function and look as good as the day I got it?... Yes, yes it does! Rarely do I find something that is this durable for such a great price.

Seems sturdy and was easy to assemble.
The Cosco Chair/Step Stool 11-18WHT seems sturdy, was easy to assemble. Meets my need to reach into higher kitchen cabinets, and having a stool at my kitchen counter. White is the only color option for this product, which does not match my kitchen décor. If the stool was available in other colors (especially black, or even almond), I would have rated it 5 stars. We selected this stool to replace the less expensive Cosco Chair/Step Stool with the lift-up seat and stationary steps, but that model was a horrible product -- very wobbly, unsafe, difficult to assemble, and the padding split easily. I hope this model is sturdier -- only time will tell. We have only been using it for 1 - 2 weeks so far.Update on April 1, 2016: After 4 months of daily use, the Cosco 11-18WHT Retro Chair/Step Stool remains in excellent condition, and very sturdy. I do not hesitate to use it to reach into upper cabinets, change light bulbs in ceiling fixtures, etc. -- no wobbly step stool here (I have balance issues, so a sturdy product is a necessity). Assembly was extremely easy compared to its less costly, unstable counterpart. I plan on purchasing another Cosco 11-18WHT step stool for my laundry room.

good chair
I purchased this for my 80 year old mom. She said it was easy to assemble when she got it. She loves these chairs, hopefully this one will last her a bit!

Works but Cheesy
Stool is functional and handy, but no match for the 1950s-70s originals. Adequately sturdy but no more. Light-gauge metal, cheesy semi-matte powder coating instead of gloss enamel, sloppy visible welds, flimsy plastic pivot brackets, thin low-grade vinyl seat cover, and so on. Screams "cheap" and detracts from kitchen decor rather than enhancing it. But it is inexpensive and it does work both as a seat and as a step stool to reach upper kitchen cabinets, and there don't appear to be any alternatives.

Reviewer that says one leg NOT shorter is right!
Update:January 2022Continue to love this chair. Great purchase.May 2020My husband just finished putting the step ladder together. He kept the screws in loosely until the whole thing was put together, then tightened them all the way, but then untightened and retightened, adjusting the step ladder until it was even. It wobbled a bit on the floor but our floorboards have some warping, so I brought the chair onto the kitchen floor and they felt about a quarter inch off. Then we put the ladder on the coffee table which is set even, and the ladder was perfect, no wobbling, so we knew it wasn't the ladder, it was the floor. It's not the most elegant assemble but it's beautiful and we love the back of the chair and the sides as safety guards. I stood on the top step (there are only 2) and pushed both calves of my legs outward so that they brace the sides of the ladder and that helped me stand stable enough to reach my arms forward and up toward the ceiling. Also, it's a very pretty design.
