Swing Kingdom Stainless Steel Swing Hook

Had my kids' swings attached with eye bolts and unions, but the constant back and forth of the swing actually wore away the metal of the unions. These hooks attach with included lag bolts and pivot on a smooth grommet. They work very well and are very quiet (unlike the metal on metal squeaking I had). Caveat is that this product is not sold in pairs (as an early review I read had indicated). You need to order 2 for a swing. But even so, the price for 2 is still cheaper than I've been able to find these elsewhere.

This is the real deal. I was looking for a swing hanger that can handle the weight of an adult or two plus the extra Gs caused by swinging. Unfortunately, The heavy duty hangers sold far and wide online are all cast "iron" from what I can see. They (the other bolts) don't hold as near as much weight as steel, at only 350 lbs per hanger. Consider this: an aluminum heat treated carabiner can hold on average 4,400 lbs along its major axis, and a half inch steel carabiner can hold over 8,000 lbs closed. Cast iron just doesn't cut it. If you're a 200 lb person and you want to build a 40 foot tall swing, and swing in a 180 degree arc like we did in elementary school, then this is the hanger you need. The bolt bridging the two sides and carrying the weight is a "S30400 THE" bolt. So, its a 18-8 stainless Tong Hwei Enterprises (Taiwan). Its supposed to have a good trade off between corrosion resistance and strength. 18-8 is hardly magnetic, so I tested the whole hanger with a magnet, and it was all barely magnetic, unlike iron and other forms of steel.The hanger comes with 3" lag screws and washers (not to be confused with carriage bolts). I may swap these out for carriage bots for extra holding power, but lag bolts should be just fine. The mounting holes are just larger than 3/8", but less that 1/2". The is very good deal vs. the others online.

This thing is made like Fort Knox. I mean it is really really solidly built. I think it will last longer than my patio. That said, why four stars? Well, it's sold not in a set of two, but individually. I mean, who needs ONE swing hook? Make sure you order the number you need.

I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to in this case because these are fantastic swing hinges. They are high quality, smooth, and quiet during operation. The other type of swing hinges which are galvanized cast iron are very loud, but these stainless units which are bushed with what looks like a UHMW material are very quiet. At first I was concerned with the hinge design being round stock formed to shape and installed over a plastic bushing (sorry I'm an engineer and I worry about stuff failures and safety etc) and thought it might wear out, but after many months of operation, I'm not worried about that anymore. My only note would be that when installing the mounting bolts, drill pilot holes first. Granted, if you are a DIY kind of person, you probably already know that.

Only sent 1. I had previously ordered the exact same thing and it came as a pair. It’s supposed to be for a swing set. Which means you need 2 of them not one. They should specify or be more careful when shipping items.

I searched for quite a while for American-made, heavy-duty swing hooks, and am so happy I finally found these. Even better, they are stainless steel and no more expensive than many of the Chinese hooks. They even came with stainless lag bolts and washers. Installation was a breeze, and they are absolutely silent in use. Some other reviewers mentioned concerns about the nylon bushings, but these have been used in industrial applications for decades, so I'm confident they will hold up on a child's swing-set. I'll update my review if I have any issues though.

Quality at a decent price. Now I had 1 minor issue that I was able to handle myself. One of the hole on the hook was not large enough for the lag bolt so I had to enlarge it just a bit. Other than that minor issue I wouldn't mind buying the hooks again.

... and designing things is what I do professionally. This swing hook is perfect for the home swingset. All the metal bits are stainless steel and the rest plastics (a little bit of nylon in the locknut and a nice bushing which looks to be made of acetal.) No grease required. I only just installed them, so I can't attest to the longevity, but I expect them to outlast the pressure treated lumber AND the kids. Lag screws and washers included, and of course, their stainless too! I am one happy Product Development Engineer because I did not have to go back into the shop and make these, but they are exactly how I would have!
