Good for any food that you would normally mash, and also for kneading stiff doughs
I was looking for a sturdy masher that would hold up to mashing potatoes or beans, and also something that would work well in kneading dough. The single support brace for the mashing paddle looked as if it would be easier to clean, but I was concerned that it would allow the masher to flex, and possibly break, and I was also concerned that the masher would feel unbalanced in use, but I decided to take the risk, and I could not be happier! The masher does not feel any clumsier than the two armed type because of the way that the handle is angled, and moreover, the way that the mashing paddle is shaped a bit like a ladle allows you to easily move the food around in the bowl or pot you are mashing in. You don't need to dirty a wooden spoon to move the food into place for you to mash. One thing that this masher has, which makes it better than other, more expensive, but similar products on Amazon likeย 12'' Stainless Steel Smooth Potato Masher, Cooking and Kitchen Gadget, Good Grip - Mirror Polishing ย is that the piercings in the mashing paddle go up the side of the handle a bit, allowing you to mash food against the side of your pot or bowl. The combination of this feature with the superior manipulation allowed by the more spoonlike design makes using this masher quicker than others. Being able to mash against the side is also useful if you are trying to mash chunks of food in a liquid, like mashing a few of the potatoes in a soup to thicken the broth. Finally, this masher is nicely weighted, and of good stainless steel. Previous to this purchase, my best masher was made by Farberware. It was sturdy enough, but was less well balanced; this one's handle is heavier and helps to balance the mash paddle, and the Farberware version was made of coated carbon steel. The coating quickly wore off, and the Farberware masher also had creases in the metal stamping which were hard to keep free of rust and grime. So far, this is the best masher I have yet used. It is well beyond most mashers in quality, and based on what I have seen at cooking stores, I would typically expect a tool of this type to cost perhaps five times as much. Recommended.

Very sturdy
I use it to mash up beans in my cast iron skillet. This one does the job and the price is right. The handle is much heavier than expected, nicely balancing this tool with its business end.PROS: Solid build made of 18/8 stainless. Heavy enough to be used as a weapon, if the need arises.CONS: None yet. If you have delicate hands, maybe buy a masher with a cushy handle instead.

Amazing!
I wasn't able to find a potato masher like the antique one my mom had, so I thought I would try this one. I love it! It is surprisingly heavy and high quality -- and it mashes things perfectly. I highly recommend this masher.

Good design heavy duty
I really like the grip and heft. The L-shaped design makes it much easier to mash in the pot.

Hefty and Swell
This is heavy-duty piece of equipment and a great value. The brushed steel looks nice and won't scratch. Fits well in the hand. I recommend it.
