Mona picks up her first job tutoring two orphaned children living in a derelict house in the country. Her obsession with trying to educate these two nearly feral children blind her to the fact they have other plans for her.

A Primal Scream
Censorship note: The German-released, 16-and-up rated, Alive DVD is uncensored, and the English subtitling is excellent. Multiple other reviewers report that the Meridian DVD and the Meridian BluRay are censored versions. The Spanish-language version via Vemox channel on Prime Video is also censored. Of course, Amazon and its suppliers fail to flag this, which is apparently still legal. Hmmph. By censoring this film, Amazon, Meridian, and Vemox are catering to the very prejudices that Noel's film criticizes, and to some extent, reducing its impact. On to the movie:Homophobia, mental illness, sexual preciousness, vigilantism, child sex abuse, betrayal, paranormal phenomena, and revenge: all of this swirls together in Ivan Noel’s philosophical horror film The Tutor. The end result, disturbing to most of us on multiple levels, is both highly entertaining and thought-provoking.Mona is hired, she thinks, to educate Angel and Ema, 11-year-old orphaned brother and sister who, she soon discovers, live well beyond “free range.” Whether some events are real or paranormal or hallucinatory is unclear at times. And that, it turns out, is as intended. What is actually going on is indicated by several hints quite early, but, as sometimes happens, the most definitive clue was too subtly presented (for me) and I only learned about it in the “Making Of” special feature on the Alive DVD. But in the end, it all makes sense. How intense is this film? After watching it, and especially the ending, I was glad to have the “Making Of” available, to remind myself that the actors are not the characters. Running with that idea allows me to tell myself that rather than a proffered course of action, The Tutor instead represents Ivan Noel’s primal scream of pain, dedicated to all victims of moral extremism.Where “extremism” begins is a debate that will long endure. Meanwhile, here is an interesting movie, well worth watching.

Adam and eve origin story?
I wasn't really sure what to make of this movie at first.... like what is the point?Let me sum up the movie...We are animals and just smart enough to convince ourselves that were not. Very beautiful and disturbing to say the least. Worth a watch at least twice the movie has a lot to say and makes you really think about who we are as humans and where our morality comes from

Top notch psychological plot
Another triumph by Ivan Noel! Right on target as usual. His movies are highly controversial, but socially accurate. He tells in his films the truth nobody wants to speak. For those who like polemical movies, this is it! I also recommend watching 'Rejected and Chaos'.We humans forget, that we are animals not gods. The use of reason is no excuse for feeling superior. Breath taking settings and footage of nature. Excellent psychological drama with an interesting twist in the end.Spoiler. This is not a non-stop action movie. It's not amusing entertainment, it's a film for critical thinking and openminded analysis. And a very good one, indeed!

A Cerebral Cult Classic To-Be
An intense and cerebral flick. Will definitely require several views to wrap one’s head around (I haven’t figured it out yet). As other reviewers advised, be sure to get a CMV-Laservision copy; and NOT the censored version from Meridian. There -IS- a small amount of newdity, but nothing close-up and certainly not gratuitous.

The Nanny meets The Jungle book at Hammer horror studios
Odd headline I admit but you will understand why when you view this film. Having agreed to become tutor for 2 children in a out of the way country house a young woman new to the job finds she has a young boy and girl to look after who behave in a wild untamed way with a house keeper who seems unconcerned by their wild child antics Trying to educate them the tutor finds out is not going to be easy Her concerns are further increased when a man keeps appearing taking a close viewing interest of the children mostly the boy But when she describes the man it all turns to denial with the claim the man she saw is the gardener who was supposed to have died 2 years ago Turns out this alleged ghost plays a part in the tutors future with serious consequences Well worth watching as its another deep plot film by the master film maker Ivan Noel

As One Would Expect From This Director...
A strange and disturbing tale about strange and disturbed people! But Ivan Noel was certainly a very talented and original film maker (and musician) - it's just a shame that he wasted his talent on such dark and depressing subject matter. But I would say that his unique and uncompromising films are worth the time and money, this one included - as long as you're not offended by child nudity (not that much though). What a great shame (and loss) that he chose to end his life rather than fight unproven accusations of abuse.

A NEW TURN OF AN OLD SCREW
An updated version of 'The Turn Of The Screw' with the repressed sexuality of the Victorian age stripped away and the psychology of possession becoming a twist in the plotline. Not as good as 'The Innocents', 'The Tutor' does however confront the dark side of child/child and child/adult relationships in a way that's fit for the 21st century.

dark and brilliant films with convincing performances
Another of unique film maker Ivan Noel's unsettling, haunting, dark and brilliant films with convincing performances , especially the child actors playing the feral kids. I think Henry James would have approved of this latest version of his classic chiller Turn of the screw.

Original foreign language film -variation on Horror drama!
An good, original film with excellent acting from the children in particular! An dark, errie story, not always clear what it is about always! Some very brief child nudity, but discrete, and appropriate to the story. Well worth watching! Different from any British/American drama.
