I purchased this specifically for grilling fish. I wanted to grill Salmon at home and I also wanted to use it for camping for grilling fish over an open fire. I also did want one of the oversized things that are often sold for grilling as I wanted something that easily fit into the dishwasher. I had read many of the previous reviews and I was a little concerned about the comments about it falling open with your food inside. The first time I used it worked great. The second time I almost spilled my fish because if fell open when I tried to flip it. I examined it closely at that point to see what went wrong. The issue was that the metal clasp has to go over the tabs on both the front and back grills and I had only hooked it on over the front tab. I had a unit similar to this for many years before I finally retired it and it was welded onto the back grill so you just had to hook the front. This one is not that way, but there is a reason for it. The reason is that by not welding it to the back grill you can remove the handle which I find quite handy for putting in the dishwasher as it is easier to fit in without the handle and as the handle is wood, I am thinking it will fare better if I don't put it in the dishwasher. I also like removing the handle for camping as we go wilderness camping and it packs into a backpack easier with the handle removed. Now that I know how to use it have had no further problems with food falling out. I was also a little concerned about the comments which stated that this was not real stainless steel, but some sort of coated lesser metal. One comment stated that since it was not magnetic it was not steel. I looked closely at their specs before I bought it as I wanted steel because the way I clean this when I go camping is I just toss it in the fire and burn off any residue. It gets red hot and if it were aluminum it would be a puddle by the end of this. Not all steel is magnetic and the specific steel that they list is not magnetic. I did not do any metalurgical analysis on it, but based on the temperature I heated it to, in my opinion it is stainless steel as advertised. With respect to thickness, there were some comments about it being too thin. The specification do state the thickness and I was a little concerned because it was thinner than my old unit. I find it is thick enough for my uses though. I have no problem putting a filet of Atlantic Salmon in it. There is a little compression of the fish at the thickest points in the fillet, but I spray the grill with canola oil before I put the salmon in and it comes right off after cooking. Overall I am viewing this as an upgrade over my older unit primarily because of the removable handle is a really nice feature. At this point I have used it about 5 times for Salmon at home on the gas grill and used it for a week camping in the wilderness (BWCA) where I used it to grill primarily smallmouth bass and it has worked great. I definitely recommend it.

Wanted a way to grill fish without it sticking to my grill top. This basket worked perfectly! I spray it with nonstick, then put the seasoned fish in it. Lay it on the grill, close the lid. 4 min later I turn the fish for another 4 min. Done to perfection and lovely grilled flavor! Makes a big difference! Just BE CAREFUL when you open it that you don’t dump the fish on the floor. Happened to me one time and I realized how the handle worked, so won’t happen again. Just be careful!

I was looking for a sturdy grilling basket that is sturdy and is of a good quality, but this one is definitely not what I was looking for. I would have returned it back if I did try it a bit earlier.

wife being asking for a grill basket. this one fit perfectly for our need. we normally grill shrimp, thin slice of pork belly (bacon), and veggies. To me, it's not a ideal for heavy or large food item, such as rib, large chicken legs, fish because the basket is not deep and handle would not be able to handle it. The handle is held by wood not hard plastic which it would easily split or chip. Test for durability by pressing down about 15lbs of pressure, the wood chipped (see pictures). It would be great if the handle support grip would be made out of hard plastic rather than wood for durability, basket would be a little bigger for large food items.

This item bits well into my barbecue however it does not hold food very well when turning. I would recommend something different.
