One of the best of the Eaglemoss Starships line and a rare model of the Beyondaprise.
The first third of the Star Trek Beyond Film features a new version of the Enterprise, a more elegant, less hot-rod version of the Abrams 2009 film. Eagle Moss did very good model of the 2009 version but their reproduction of the Star Trek Beyond Enterprise is even better. The aztecing (that's the pattern of patterns on the surface to make it looked tiled) is superb and much better defined that others in the Eagle Moss line , and the others are already pretty good. There are very lovely little details on the bussard collectors too that are missing from the 2009 version and, to date, there are no other good model kits of this version of the Enterprise. If you want an accurate model, without 3D printing then this is the only place to get it.The scale is spot on, about 8 inches long so it's a nice display size and a great deal of thought has gone into how this thing looks on a stand. There are no holes for the stand to slot into, the stand slots over the back of it so when you pick it up and fly it around the room in your hand (which I... totally don't do.. honest) it looks good from every angle.Another very cool feature is that there are few gaps and where materials are joined together, those gaps are hidden and tight. The same can't quite be said for the 2009 one.Decals are straight and accurate although the left, secondary hull pennant arrow is the same as the right one, it should be reflection, but it was very hard to spot that (very tiny) flaw. Without a magnifying glass (and flying it around the room) I wouldn't have noticed. The magazine is also one of the better Eaglemoss ones. It gives a pretty good insight into the design of the Beyondaprise and the Enterprise A at the end of the film! The pictures in here were new to me and I did a LOT of digging on this because I wanted to build my own model of it. It's a thin magazine but the layouts are clear, pictures are superb and the glossy print sells the artwork and 3D work superbly. The articles are brief and seem to hold a little back but for real enthusiasts the 'from the horses mouth' snippets drop enough names and details to go digging deeper so don't be put off by the brevity. Quality over quantity. For casual fans, there is lot here to enjoy and for those not obsessed over space ships the human-side is pretty solid. If you are a collector and missed this one, you missed one of the best sculpts of the entire series, the best paint job of the entire series (those bussard details!) and a surprisingly detailed look at the Enterprise A from images that haven't made it into the wilds of the internet. For me. I missed it, realised I'd missed out and spent a LONG time hunting one down. They're getting rare but they are exquisite.
