You can’t go wrong if the steel is good.
Don’t see this replacing my BK Thurman for most carving but, sometimes you just need a longer blade. I’ve been wanting a longer blade for a while and final decided to give Mora a try. I like the size and feel of the handle. I can palm a basketball so appreciate this handle. Used a file to create a little more area for my thumb and forefinger making more of a guard. Arrived sharp and seems to keep a good edge. $5 more than the brand X blades for a forged blade made for Swiss Steel. No brainer!

BUY THIS KNIFE
I had heard good things....but dollar for dollar this is simply the best tool purchase I've ever made.Sharp out of the box, and I mean really sharp....the entire bevel was polished....and its ground to the perfect bevel for carving, 23 degrees is my guess. The profile is so versatile you can waste wood very quickly with a power stroke, or do a lot of very detailed work towards the tip. I no longer bother sanding when I work bowls or spoons...this knife allows me to smooth any exterior surface.Held a great edge despite TONS of use on extremely hard wood (dry red oak and green crape myrtle) and when it started to lose its bite, all I had to do was polish it up on my barber's stone. (Which I use instead of a strop.)I can't recommend Mora highly enough......I also bought the Companion utility knife, and that one just as good a blade. I just finished installing about 60sf of cedar shakes, and it was my primary tool for the job.You can spend twice as much for knives from a sexier maker, but I don't think anyone else is making better. My only complaint is that I wish Mora made a full line of carving tools, as a value-priced alternative to the Swiss and German manufacturers!

Scary sharp, great feel, but...some blade chipping on first use
I am a huge fan of Mora knives, I must have 13 or 14 including this model. The knife arrived very sharp and oiled, no complaints.I just finished working with it, carving a slingshot out of a medium-hardness wood. Back in my office, I was stropping the blade and noticed chipping almost dead center - about .5 mm wide of lateral chips just breaking off 2/10 mm (thickness) of the edge. I attributed this to the fact that the blade edge is very thin (to attain this level of sharpness) and perhaps more delicate due to the laminated construction (?).I decided to just hone it out with a ceramic stone (as best as possible) and use it without attempting to send it back. I figured a replacement blade would probably react the same.Perhaps this knife was meant for softer wood and finer projects.I still love the knife, just a little battle scar, but if you plan on carving harder woods, and heavy use, this might not be the best option.

Excellent Roughout knife.-Sharp
The intended use for this knife in carving is to remove wood quickly. It does that very well but certainly is not a detail knife but should be in your toolbox because it is great for its intended use. Excellent price and well worth it

You have to check this knife out! You can't go wrong!!! Its my #1
I just received this knife and i am very very impressed. I have large hands and the 106 seemed to never be a good fit. The amazing 105 will be my #1 go to knife. It fits my hands perfectly. It is so sharp i got a cut just looking at it. I will be buying several more. You need to check this knife out! Found a great leather worker that is starting to make deluxe hand made sheaths for the 105.

Unbelievable knife
Absolutely the best little carving knife you could have in your tool box. Razor sharp blade, needs nothing more than a good strop between uses. The birch handle is super easy to customize for a personal fit in the hand. I would pay three times as much for this knife, but hope I never have to.Would be nice to get a sheath, but super easy to make a friction one for the blade out of some cardboard from a cereal box and a little masking tape. Birch bark would work great if I could find some laying around. I carved the handle on this one with my 106, which is still as sharp as the day I bought it. If you can only afford one knife in your kit, make sure it's a Mora.

NO SHEATH!!! Not even a plastic one. Sharpest mora, gets cardstock to cover it.
Sharpest mora 105 LC, no sheath, no edge cover, cardstock for the sticker. Are you serious mora? 511 craft also bought and returning, do not buy plastic no grip handle , this knife will fly out of your hand and mora is sharp out of the box. This one sending back, defective back edge factory POS. I own so many mora knives, so disappointed.

Wicked Sharp
Beginners in carving can experience frustration from using knives with a broad bevel. The bevel on this Marakniv is very lean, and it came with an edge on it that makes push-cuts and roll-cuts on inside curves a breeze. The handle registers well in the hand, and seats comfortably.
