Don't do what I did! Please read this
This is a GREAT drill bit if it fits your rotary hammer. Sorry for the 1 star but I needed to get your attention.I had NO idea they made two different size SDS bits. Yes, I live in a cave. I've always had the larger size SDS which they call Max. This drill bit is called SDS Plus which is a STUPID word to describe the smaller one (in my opinion). Lets face it. If your significant other is a "Plus" size then they are large. That's how the word "Plus" is used these days... Yes, I did read the description and I did look at the pictures. I also saw the word "Plus" so I'm not blaming anyone but myself but COME ON This is a 39" beast with a tiny little toddler SDS shank on the end. I didn't even realize they called the larger SDS a "Max". When I saw "Plus" I just assumed that's obviously what I have as I've never seen a larger one than mine. Again, who uses the word "Plus" to describe the smaller of two things?? That's like saying Andre was not a Giant was only enormous.Looking at the Amazon ad- one pic is correct in showing this bit and the other shows the larger style. Due to the fact that this Amazon ad is for different size bits It didn't really think much of it. Don't do what I did! Order the correct size bit and understand that there is a smaller version of the SDS out there that they call a "Plus" size.

Beware!!!
The drill bit is everything that it's supposed to be; however, there is a possible downside and it has nothing to do with the drill bit itself. Be warned. Whomever was responsible for packaging should either be offered a job at Fort Knox or become a target at a shooting gallery. The tool was wrapped in this adhesive, form fitting bubble wrap that in my 70 years have never encountered. It took me 24 minutes to extricate the item from this stuff. It took 24 minutes of cussing that I didn't know that I was capable of and I'm a former Marine. It was the toughest material that I have ever encountered and I'm not exaggerating or embellishing my experience at all. You will need an extremely sharp razor knife and wear gloves. It is truly nasty stuff. I almost gave up to either run off and join the French Foreign Legion or search for God at any monastery that would accept me. You have been warned.

It gets the job done but it is NOT 8" ...
It gets the job done but it is NOT 8" long... actual penetration depth is about 4.5" (and yes, that is what she said).

Not as advertised. Toooo short!
Bosch calls this a 10" bit. In the smaller print, they say that its "usable length" is 8". I bought it to drill holes in 8" block, so, based on the description, it should work. No! I drilled until the chuck touched the block, but the bit didn't come through the other side. I placed a tape measure on it, and when this bit is installed in an SDS Plus drill, the distance from the chuck to the tip of the bit is only 7-5/8".

Does the job, but much better bits available for a bit more
I bought this DeWalt and the similarly priced Bosch bit for installing wedge bolts in concrete to mount fence cloor flanges. I started with this one, and only realized how much better that the DeWalt worked than the Bosch when I swapped bits as the wear mark on the DeWalt started to fade (about 50 holes in, and a feature not present on the Bosch) and realized that brand new the Bosch did not work quite as well as the worn DeWalt I had just swapped out. It worked to finish out, but I am just getting DeWalt if I ever have to drill concrete again.

Using this to get out of prison
I’m halfway through getting out of my house with this through the basement 6” cement flooring. Took me a while and burned up a craftsman and overheated a dewalt. Told the wife I’m making repairs...It’s holding up pretty good. Despite how crazy slow it penetratesI’ll let you know when I reach Cabo.Keep your bikini on. I’m coming. I’ve got 6 more drills so I’m good!

Starts out good. Short lived! (Installed a dryer vent thru house brick/mortar)
Shame on Bosch, all i can think to say. It drilled thru the mortar part decent enough. Luckily my center was thru cross of it, I did 2 more from inside again thru mortar Moved outside, started a hole thru actual brick. First hole was accurately difficult, being not the mortar. Started 2nd hole, got 1/2 inch at most and i started to see tip get red or sparks, whatever you want to call it. Yep, i was not going any further. Moved to try 3rd, Dead useless, I was able to turn hammer drill speed down and attempted to make little starter nipples for the rest. Were talking like 16-18 more needed to take chisel to brick and break out. I had to go find any masonry bits i owned, like 2-3. Now i have none. I melted tips to both them. I got 1 1/2 more complete holes. I decided i just have to start chiseling. I went inside and chiseled with a smaller one to crack the brick so when i got to from outside maybe i save face. It worked. I went back and finally chiseled out the hole. 45 minutes of chisel with carefulness. The Bit was new, i had to break the holder to remove from it's Bosch packaging. So i know it was a new Bosch 3/8 8 in. It even says SDS Bulldog PLus on pkg. But it will never be able to use again properly. Not even sure will work on just mortar? The tip i now looks like a drill bit no tip wing. So if you plan on going thru concrete or mortar, buy it and hope finish project. If your going thru brick to install dryer vent like i did, better have back up mortar bits to ruin as well as the Bosch. Again i'm disappointed with Bosch product, and it'a ability to go thru brick. As much as i liked to taken pictures. I spent almost 4 hrs on this project, stopping to take pictures and being irritated, wasn't my thought. I was trying to avoid 5 trips to home store and having a mess.

With the right rotary hammer, this thing works well.
I had 38 holes to drill installing a pool fence I first tried it in my consumer grade hammer-drill and it took most of a whole day to get through about 4 inches of very hard concrete. I could smell insullation burning and the bit kept slipping in the chuck. I was not happy with the bit.I borrowed a more powerful hammer-drill and I doubled my speed to two in a day. No burning, but bit-slip was still a problem.Since renting a rotary hammer is expensive and I figured I would need multiple days I bought a decent, but cheap rotary hammer for $99 that has an SDS chuck and got the remaining 35 holes drilled in less than an hour. The bit is still as good as new and I sprayed it with WD-40 to store it until I can find some more concrete that needs holes. :-)

Great product, long life.
Really solid rock bit. I've done 40 or 50 holes in granite and some in limestone, basalt, and gniess.Still going strong. Highly recommended.Beats the pants of the hardware store bits that drop the carbide after 6 holes...Be sure to grease the sds drive and go lightly, you don't want to force the bit against the stone. It needs to be able to bounce a little to work efficiently.

Usually good bits...
Good thing i bought 2.First one broke (more like shattered) in 3 pieces not even 1" into the first hole.In 20 years of construction and working with sds drills regularly and thats the first time i have ever seen THAT happen.Bosch bulldogs are generally usually good bits. Not sure why this happened, thinking i wound up with a dud.

BREAK APART STONE
worked great with a bisch bulldog 8A hammer drill to pierce large garden stones and use wedge/feathers to break them apart. Drill bis in still in excellent condition afterwards. Don't forget to grease to tip you insert into the drill, and don't push hard while drilling.

High Quality. Be aware though!!
Seems like a very high quality bit, and drills through block and poured concrete very well. Just be aware that the smaller bits like 5/32 will only drill about 2.5" before the bit flares out to the base. So if you are trying to drill a sill plate to concrete for tapcons or whatever fastener, you may want to move up to a 6" long to get a little more depth.

what part is 18" long?
Overall length of the drill and it's shank is only 17.5"? So where is the 18" length come from. Once in a drill, the maximum depth you can drill to is 14".Drill itself worked well but did not help that we needed to drill holes 18" deep!
