10-Day Sugar Detox: Easy Meal Plans to Beat Sugar in 10 Days

Extremely informative, healthy lifestyle without sugar? Yes.
This book was quite fascinating. I knew about aspartame being another word for sugar – my mom never bought anything containing aspartame. However, I was not informed about the other forms of sugar that the author mentioned…it shocked me that companies are great at deceiving their customers. I appreciate that the author talked about why we need to detox, why sugar isn’t 100% evil. We just have to be smart with the types of sugars we intake.Beforehand, I read this book not for the purpose of myself – as I am already very skinny (so trying to gain weight…which is a process for me), but this actually was quite beneficial to me. I’m not ready to quit sugar, but I will definitely minimize the amount for the sake of my health. I didn’t know that excess sugar COULD be the reason that I have trouble sleeping on time! Also, I really like that the author provides various types of detox – one detox won’t help everyone so breaking it down to different types is very smart! The variety of detox plans also are organized and the author provides recipes along with a “pantry list” of what to buy.The “Make-Ahead Snacks” chapter is my absolute favorite, I tried many of the recipes like the crunchy kale chips, jicama salsa, and homemade hummus! I’m slightly overwhelmed with all the recipes that the author provided…it’s an immense amount (which is a good thing).I highly recommend this book to people who are in need of a change in their diet, and possibly lifestyle. It will be a great tool reading this while trying to lose weight as the author provides healthy recipes without the need of sugar. *I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.

Decent guide for quitting sugar but could be improved
Pros - Easy to read, well organized, easy to followCons - no consideration if people have dietary restrictions or allergies that are common. For example, bacon is used for several recipes. Also, lots of bananas and avocados which are both relatives of the rubber tree family and are common allergies. Ditto the heavy reliance on eggs. Also, there are several nut recipes which are not okay for many people. And too much soy. Finally,.she relies on coconut oil which is not good if you have high LDL levels. These are all problems that could be cured if you have some knowledge. Note that coconut oil adds a sweet taste which can give that sugary taste people may be craving. I spent a couple of hours this morning constructing my own diet from her recipes but I have a pretty decent knowledge of nutrition and food (personally I don't eat any foods like bacon which are usually cured and has too much sodium. I am also allergic to avocado, bananas, mango, and kiwis (all part of my intolerance to this family of plants). I also don't tolerate soy.I also think that commercially made almond milk has too many additives and she does not include a recipe for making your own which is very easy to make. Also beans are easy to make but people need to know how to lower the gas factor especially if they are carrying a big belly (which can lead to GERD issues). My suggestion would be for the author to put out an addendum that allows one to substitute certain dishes for others in the book. Also, I know that many people feel like they are being deprived in the during diets, hence her inclusion of things like homemade mayo which is virtually the same as mayo available from health stores. And finally (really), there shoud be a chart for people to adapt portions depending on their size. A very good friend of mine is an ex college athlete - he is 6'5 and weighs upwards of 300 lbs. He is in his early 30's. His body requires more calories. Without that larger portion he will feel like he is starving and will be more likely to fall off the diet. Another friend of mine is 5'1, small boned, has never been active (i.e no muscle mass to speak of), weights about 135 and is in her late 50's. She needs a lot fewer calories. Detox - or stopping your sugar addiction - is a great idea but the book needs some more basic info for people who don't know much about food.

10 Sugar Detox is very intimidating, but great if you can manage it
The 10 Day Sugar Detox explains the negative effects of sugar on your body. The intro clues you in on just how much sugar goes into the typical diet. Then the book briefly goes over the 4 detoxes to rid your body of sugar--some more than others. They tell you upfront how difficult it will probably be--both on your body and your pocketbook. Quite frankly, it is very intimidating. And even the least restrictive of the detoxes are pretty restrictive. The author does mention that 10 days is much shorter than 21 days, or 8 weeks as some other detoxes are. But this is pretty much a "cold-turkey" approach, rather than a gradual, weaning type diet. I don't doubt you will get great health benefits if you can manage it, but I will say you need to be very, very motivated and focused to keep it up.I received a free copy of this book for my honest, unbiased review.
