It's a great way to start learning.
It took me less than two hours to read through the chapters and learn all the letters. I did all the exercises, too. I happen to have studied several languages, so it wasn't rocket science for me. But it was still more difficult than I expected. That said, I then went to Google Translate to find a translation for a word and discovered that you can use the site to learn the language. Not only do you get the Greek words for whatever words and expressions you want, but there is a voice that speaks it all so you can hear the pronunciation. You won't really need another language book. So, I'm really happy that I got this book, and I'm going to learn to speak it as well as being able to read it. I gave it a four star only because not only would I have set up the exercises differently, I would have used different English letters to represent some of the sounds. But it does a great job, and you do want to start with this book.

great value
A very good way to pick up some quick information on the Greek alphabet and key words. Once you understand the alphabet, which will only take 15 minutes, you will be able to read any Greek work. It is amazing how many English words have Greek origins. Once you can read Greek words you can figure out a lot of there meaning.

Great intro to pronunciation!
For people like me with little or no knowledge of Greek pronunciation, this little gem of a Kindle book is a great introduction. The Romanized pronunciation guides and the very short descriptions of Greek letters and digraphs are very intuitive for a native speaker of English.

The alphabet and how to pronounce the word. I don't get discouraged I'm enjoying it.
I don't use this book to make long sentences but only use it for a word or two; the people that I try to speak Greek to are Greek and find it funny that it takes me so long in finding the right words...I'm leaning the alphabet.

Needed this, thanks
It accomplishes its mission, it will train a person to read Greek. My objective is to learn enough Greek to do a two week vacation in Athens, the Peloponnese, and Crete. This book helps do that mission.

Read the transportation signage
Great book to learn the alphabet and basic words. Can be done in 5 days easily. Wish there was more practice. Found some reading and speaking lessons online to continue practice. Would recommend this book as a starting point to learn to read Greek.

This was a great beginning book.
I was born and raised Greek. I never learned to read and write. I was writing and reading on my first day. I finished the book in 3 days. I plan to add to my vocabulary next. Thank you so much for writing this book.Stephen Kalikakis

Vital to new student.
This is a must have, gf learned basic Greek prior to going to the country, and she was so glad she had learned some prior! Made the visit for her much more fun!

Theft!
Theft!I thought it was too good to be true. All this book does is to go through pronunciation of the Greek alphabet which any self-respecting language book would cover in the first chapter. Shame on you Amazon for selling this rubbish.

Very informative
Greek is not the easiest language but If you are going to start to learn you should try this book first. The alphabet and pronunciation are explained in a very, very easy to understand way.

Too simple, in fact!
This book describes the pronunciation of each Greek letter, rather than teaching the reading of Greek text. It is almost 100% accurate, apart from the first mention of κορίτσι where it is listed as meaning bird. In a sense this could be true, if using slang English, but κορίτσι actually means girl in Greek (stated correctly towards the end). Being able to speak decent Greek due to some years working there, I'm nearly hopeless at reading this beautifully rich language and need more help than this book offers.

Beginning at the very beginning is a very good way to start.
The purpose of this very useful book is to teach the reading of the Greek written alphabet. It is suitable for absolute beginners. It is necessary to keep working on the alphabet until it is second nature. Reading Greek letters leads to sounds and then some words. That's all the book does. The book is not a beginners Greek course such as the excellent Get Your Greek On ! by Peter Schultz but covers the stage before that.
