Southland: Season 2

Southland from the start !
Like many of others, I have watched many TV/drama police shows , and I'm a writer for the past 25 years, also drama, but I have to tell you this is by far, the absolutely the best I ever have watched. I'm amazed that the actors can reprised their charactors every season and to have the whole show "Believable". John Copper is without the most loved charactor. Being someone who've had a accident and have three chrushed disc's in my back, I can endorse him and the level of pain you have to endure. The pain is so back your fighting to just stand up on your own.Detective lidia Adams is great, especially in her firendship of her different new partners and the one, Robertson who commented that he was not confortable with the lies and manipulation of suspects, and she explains only later in the show that "this is the Job" you have to use what you can to get a conviction. Even the episode where she has a suspect in a room and she's just talking to him and comes out of the room only to have her partner who says she should of read him his maranda rights and she replies she not arresting him, "we're just having a conversation" he can leave anytime he want, but this is the job, if you don't like it get a transfer. .."And who couldn't see the human side of the rookie Ben Sherman. The frustations he harbors inside, and coming from a ultra rich family yet he hates his father, but with each episode you can see he's fighting with what he thinks is his past and what he knows of his father. Very, very creative. Anne biderman did an excellent job. I don't know how you could get an show any better. And officer Sammy Bryant is being torn with his search for his parters killer and his attention to his new partner Ben Sherman. he knows that Sherman is going to explode at some point and he's made quite clear he's not going to lose a $90K job and his pension on a partner who can't control himself. just a fantastic show. I bought all four seasons and am waiting for the fifth season to start in Feburary 13. Anne Bidermen worked on "NYPD Blue" and "Third Watch" both great shows, but with each the writers are slowly pushing the envelope as far as content and leting the characters grow, despite what is considered as 'Adult programing'I can't wait for Feburary 13th.

Five Stars for the Show, One Star for Amazon
Southland was one of, if not THE, best police dramas ever on television. The TV version was censored; rated "MA" with corresponding bleeping out of strong language. The DVDs of the show, all 5 seasons, are all rated "NR," which means that they are uncensored - no bleeping. In season 2 in the Amazon Instant Video version, some episodes are censored (MA) and some are not (NR). I thought something was wrong with what had been delivered until I went back and read the fine print. Obviously this was after I bought it. It makes no sense for Amazon to market the product this way - it is almost deceptive, in my opinion. Update: to make Amazon's error worse, they have mis-labeled some of the episodes' ratings in this season. Some tagged as "NR" actually are censored versions and should be marked "MA." This is not the kind of quality I have become accustomed to with Amazon. Very disappointing.

Not as good as season 1, but essential viewing for fans
Season 2 is essential viewing if you enjoyed season 1 or even if you came to the series late like I did and wanted to start from the beginning to fill in the character back stories. However, there are some flaws that make it less impressive than the seasons 1, 3, 4, and 5:1. While season 2 has some great moments (particularly for Ben, John, Lydia, Sammy, and Nate), it is clear that the writers probably planned to spread the story arcs out over more episodes than 6. Most of the arcs get resolved by the 6th episode, but the resolutions don't feel earned, particularly for Sal and Chickie.2. I don't like how Amazon Instant's digital version has all the curse words bleeped out. I know this is how the show aired, but seasons 1 and 3 have all the curse words unbleeped, so why not the same treatment for season 2? The bleeps are distracting. I'd rather have no curse words that all the bleeps. If you can put up with these minor flaws, stick through season 2, because seasons 3, 4, and 5 are excellent and will be enhanced by knowing the starting points for the characters.

Southland Season 2 dvd
I love this show- truly a gritty, realistic crime drama and one of the best on tv.The dvd, however, left a lot to be desired. The fact that the show has seen some hard times is understandable with the network change after season 1 and the lack of a widely released dvd for season 2. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to even have this season available to purchase, but the fact that it's literally made by Amazon and a handful of other retailers, on burned dvd discs and their own digital print outs, it's a bare bones release that a person with the right tools could create in their own house.I wondered about a scene in an episode where victim's faces were blurred out/pixilated and thought that perhaps it was the censored episode that aired on tv instead of what is supposed to be an uncensored dvd release and I was confused... Could be an error or could be that the uncensored version still had this censored for whatever reason. Either way, glad I can re-watch these episodes again.

Good acting but typical California political, social message
Almost an exact remake on the “ new centurions” .... too Hollywood politically correct, i.e. must have a certain amount of females, gays, blacks and mixed couples....

this is still a good season of what was quite a gritty and riveting ...
Despite being cut short by NBC mid-season, then having to get picked up by TNT afterwards, this is still a good season of what was quite a gritty and riveting show. Some character arcs are closed, others are opened, but the direction, acting, and writing are top notch. You can tell there are certain budgetary constraints with the move away from NBC, but nothing that detracts from it.

Southland Season 2
One of the best cop shows around, yet for some reason is confined to late night viewing on the minority tv channel More4. The series follows a likeable bunch of LA cops, uniform and detectives as they deal with the highs and lows of policing the both affluent and poverty stricken areas of Los Angeles. This show pulls few punches and is one of the most realistic I've seen, handheld camera work helps the viewer feel as though they;re right in the action in the same way that the excellent (yet not fully released on DVD?) Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue did, combined with the breathtaking pace of The Shield. The only downfall is the shortness of the seasons, with only six episodes per season it leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to Season 3's DVD release, which hopefully isn't too far off. If you've not heard of this show, Southland is highly recommended!

A great cop show that deserves more attention.
Southland is a top-notch police drama that has been unfairly overlooked by audiences and even TV studios when it debuted its first season on NBC and was subsequently cancelled. Luckily TNT swooped in and saved it during the production of its shortened six-episode second season which you can find here on this DVD package. The series follows a number of officers and detectives who work the streets of Los Angeles and reflects the challenges both personally and professionally that they face on a daily basis. The drama is compelling, the writing is crisp and the characters are incredibly developed and fleshed out. The show is also shot from angles and locations that make you feel you're right in the middle of a scene or the events, which draws you in even further. The show is not above delivering some shocking moments and risking the lives of characters, so it's never a safe experience like you would find on most procedural shows on TV. Southland also features a gifted cast, led by Regina King, Ben McKenznie and Michael Cudlitz. If you're not already on board with this gripping drama, do yourself a favour and catch up with any DVD sets you can get your hands on, including this one. It comes with strong picture and audio quality, along with some bonus material like deleted scenes and location shooting trivia. Highly recommended.
