SurTrackTO-8168 CV Axle Shaft

I purchased this to replace a CV Axle on a 2004 Toyota 4runner. This was my second replacement axle on the car - the first one was a reman I picked up locally.Picking this up out of the box left me in awe - it's beautiful. It looks like it belongs on a space ship or something. Of course, you don't see these parts very often, so, that does little good for me. It includes dust caps on both ends of the axle, which most remans don't (they're easily bent, and I think they're unnecessary in most terrain).Installation was substantially more unpleasant than the reman - the original axles have 3 notches cut into the side that goes into the front differential - these made removal and installation a snap (pry bar for the way out, light hammering on a pry bar for the way in). The inboard joint on this is different, and doesn't have those helpers. It took far longer to get it seated in the diff - the hardest part of the entire job.This was cheaper than the remans available in my area by about $15.I'll update this review if it fails. If it doesn't, I'll consider it worthy of 4 stars.edit:Aaand, here we are, 5 months later. I've done a lot of work on my car in the last 5 months, and just completed a brake caliper replacement. While replacing the passenger side caliper (both calipers had seized over 2 years in the south - will write a different review on them), I noticed that there was quite a bit of grease on the caliper. Look more carefully, and I found the outer CV boot to be torn. Please see picture. Beyond this, you'll also notice that the entire thing had rusted, so, the futuristic look out of the box certainly didn't last (not that it matters).So, considering the amount of time required to change this thing, I am strongly advising people to go with another product. 5 months is not an adequate lifetime for this kind of part.

Garbage, I put them on my 08 4Runner about 1.5 years and both sides are shot. Don't buy these!

TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. TWICE, arrived damaged and will cost me two weeks of nonsense. Not cool. AT ALL.
