So far, so pretty good
I like this. Clearly this is the beginning of an ongoing: there is a lot of exposition here and the stage is being set, but while the story takes a while to unfold and make sense, and is clearly foreshadowing events to come, with a little patience and persistence, it becomes increasingly clear where we are heading. There is a good deal of emotional heft to the younger/older SM and BM meetings, most specifically in the art.And the artwork here is terrific. Lee's work on these stories is quite subtle and remarkably expressive. Kinda worth the price of admission on its own.Only caveat and complaint here is the final story, from the JLA. While I understand the need, or at least desire, to include it to A) pad out the page count, B) present the exposition for the next issues, and C) it does fit here from a narrative standpoint, the juxtaposition of the bombastic, almost lurid artwork with the rest of the book is quite jarring and kind of like getting slapped in the face while meditating (or some such contemplative activity as you might engage in). It feels tacked on, despite it's stage-setting.Overall, though, a fine experience and I look forward to Vol. 2

Good story.
I liked the story very much, and how it set up both the invasion of Earth 2 and Earth 1 by the forces of Darkseid. The interplay between the older Man of Steel and Dark Knight and their younger versions from Earth 1 was handled well. The art was quite good but the style of it was not my taste. Overall, it was a very good lead-off for the Batman/Superman series in the New 52.

it really is a good story.
Art was a little strange for me and the story was somewhat difficult to figure out until about 1/3 of the way through. If you can get used to the art, and don't mind the back and forth between earth 2 and earth prime characters without much of an explanation as to which is which, it really is a good story.

Amazing art!
This was a great intro to one of the batman/superman story arches. The art is fantastic and the plot isn't too shabby either. Honestly, I'd buy it for the art alone! But the story line is captivating enough I want to get the second one as well! This is another great one to add to the collection.

It was a decent read but the art work was a little weird and the story telling gets a little confusing at times.
I got through it and it wasnt all that bad but I wish I spent my time and money on reading something else. The story certainly gets interesting towards the middle and I enjoyed the Darkseid story in the end but it wasn't all that great. Not a big fan of the artwork at times (a superman wearing a t shirt?) and the story telling gets confusing. If you are looking for something different, a little more obscure than most but familiar then you should pick this up. It's not a bad read by any means. I was just hoping for something different.

Such a great read
Great story and wonderful art from lee...the premise of the story is basically the younger versions of batman and superman are transported into a different reality in which they confront older versions of them....the cherry in top was the darkseid story from his origin to him finding new 52 justice league

Oh wow this was unbelievably bad
I bought the comics back in the day, 2012 or so, and quit reading them after issue #6 because the writing was so bad and the art was bizarro. Some sort of chaotic evil 'god' is teleporting Superman and Batman around to get them to spend time together. I kid you not. I'm not sure why I'm giving it 2 stars, maybe because I reserve 1 for especially bad books. This one is consistent even though it makes no sense. I kept thinking, wow, really, DC? You let this fly? I was surprised. I won't be buying any more unless a different writer/penciller team is doing them.

I'm disappointed *SPOILERS*
I honestly feel cheated after reading this. The story is ambiguous and uninteresting. If you must know, younger versions of Batman and Superman, who don't know each other, travel to a parallel universe where older versions of Batman and Superman grew up knowing each other. It is unclear where the "god" or "demigod" that transported them came from. The authors can argue that she came from Darkseid's "new" world, but there is no background given on her at all. Again, it's very ambiguous. The fights are not cool at all. I had hope that it would get interesting, being that the two versions of Batman and Superman got to meet each other. The most interesting part TO ME was when a random kid from school who was bullied earlier on in the comic came back to punch the bully, a move he learned from Bruce Wayne. Although irrelevant, it was the most interesting part of the whole comic. I am disappointed to say the least.

Gothic for the New 52
A decent story that is lifted to new heights by some incredible art. Jae Lee's gothic pencilling on Gotham City feels like a dream come true, and really stands out when you see his depictions of Superman as a rag tag superhero still trying to learn the super hero ropes. The story itself is quite good, it details the moment that Batman and Superman first meet, and to another extent the first time Clark meets Bruce, before it throws them to a neighbouring universe known as Earth 2 and they meet their counter parts from another world. The Batman and Superman of the main DC Universe do not get on and come to blows, but when they arrive on Earth 2 and discover their counter parts are best friends, they take another look at why and re-evaluate, before helping them deal with a cosmic entity that will have serious consequences to both worlds later on.This really is a must read for fans of both characters, although the story lacks somewhat towards the end it does offer an interesting insight into their friendship.
