Excellent book, packaging for shipping not so good
Superb collection of the poems of Walt Whitman. Paperback edition. Very pleased. My only small complaint is that the shipping wasn’t very good. Should have been wrapped better. The book was simply placed in a typical Amazon Prime slightly-padded mailing envelope, and by the time it reached me, the cover of the book was slightly damaged. The book should have been shipped in a more protective small box, insuring that it would not be damaged en route to the buyer. However, I can live with it, as it wasn’t a gift.

Classic
This is a classic, so it's pretty much what you expect to get. That said, I was surprised by how thick this book is. It's over 800 pages. That's a massive body of work.

Essential reading
To the choices given me to evaluate this book, I say: What do you mean, How is the author's writing? We're talking Walt Whitman. This is certainly not a quick read, but it is worth digesting slowly. Not every reader will like every poem. Even Whitman constantly revised his work. I see this body of work to be essential reading for every educated American.

Walt Whitman is my favorite. I have ready all of his work a couple of times. I bought this just to have a collection in one location. I've cracked it open a couple of times just to kill time or relive one of my many favorite poems. It's a paper back with thin but sturdy pages. I got exactly what I wanted.

I found a lot of it just self centred tosh but do admit that he sometimes made me gasp with his amazing beauty and this in itsel
similar feelings as to Leaves but a lot more digestable . once again patience is a needed quality by the reader . I found a lot of it just self centred tosh but do admit that he sometimes made me gasp with his amazing beauty and this in itself made it worthwhile . it is a 'work ' that needs resilience and at times great understanding . I can realise the scandal at the time of publication to certain "passages" . it is only that Donna Tartt extolled a couple of his lines that urged me to read him . I just ,from the little I knew of him thought that he was an arguable journalist .

All the poems of one of the greatest poets
Nothing more needed to say. Inexpensive and worth it. Reading through this just might rekindle your love for country and fellow man. It made me motivated to join in the great tapestry of humanity.

Good
I have read snippets of Walt Whitman over the years but decided it was about time to join the dots so I picked this up and given the reputation behind Penguin I figured there collection would be the best one for me and I am glad I did.I am enjoying this volume.

A lot of book
This is a large collection and well worth the small price. Whitman was part of that essential liberation of the soul that really defined the American experience. Study the transcendentalists to understand the wisdom in that 19th century phase and the real meaning of personal freedom. Thoreau said that men have become the tools of their tools. If that's true then what's happening today with all the cyber escapism. We are still souls with organic bodies. Let's not forget the essential things!
