The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes: The Art of Alan Aldridge

He designed the 60's
This gorgeous book accompanied Aldridge's retrospective at the Design Museum in London in 2008, an exhibit which The Sunday Times called, "The trip of a lifetime." It chronicles his improbable life from the London east end docks as a poor child who fled from home and school at the age of 14 to becoming the "God of Graphics" in swinging '60's London as visual consultant to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and even Andy Warhol. He visually designed a generation, from his iconic "Beatles Illustrated Lyrics" books to his internationally acclaimed and lushly illustrated children's books, especially "The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast" and its sequels, his Grammy-nominated Elton John album cover for "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy", to his novel, "The Gnole" , the trademark Hard Rock Cafe and House of Blues logos, to current projects involving animation and computers to enchant children and parents alike. Still going full-speed ahead at age 70, Alan Aldridge is a creative powerhouse with no signs of slowing down. Enjoy the trip!

first time I came across Alan's illustrations was in the seventies when I was a teenager and I just bought a guitar book with Beatles songs, years later I actually learned more about the artist. Finally gave up on the guitar but his illustrations have always inspired me ( now a graphic designer ). Just purchased this book and it came with Alan's signature on the front page
