Great for messy aquarium accidents
After accidentally flooding my bathroom a few too many times when doing aquarium water changes, I bought this to alert me when the water level is getting close to overflowing my bathroom sink (I use a python water changer, which can suck out more water than my sink can handle). So far it has worked like a charm, it's loud enough to hear it clearly anywhere in the house and it only alerts when fully submerged and not just splashed on. The cord is also long enough to keep the main unit safely out of the path of any potential water, and the suction cup sticks well to the side of my sink or the aquarium glass. It's already saved me one messy cleanup, well worth the $15.

Perfect for Kegerators
This is a fantastic device. I use this in my kegerator's drip tray to alert me if there is ever a leak with one of the faucets. After having a couple incidents before owning this device, I can assure you this will definitely give you peace of mind and will save you money and frustration. It's loud enough to be heard in your house (depending on size). It's about as loud as a smoke detector.I'm very glad I purchased this and I would strongly recommend this to anyone that owns a kegerator. If you use this in a kegerator drip tray, the following may help you...When I first installed this, I used the suction cup and attached it to the bottom of my stainless steel drip tray pan. The suction does not stay and the sensor would float to the top before being submerged. This would result in at least 3 pints of beer lost before the alarm would sound and you would likely already have a mess. Now, I have it with the suction cup on top with the sensor pointing downward. This will give the earliest possible detection while in the tray. The thin cable is barely noticeable and I mounted the box part on the back of my kegerator with adhesive velcro to make for changing the battery and maintenance easy. I also used a zip tie to keep the excess cable nice and tidy. I hope this helps with your installation.

Very, very loud. Works every time.
If you are looking to buy this for its intended use, i.e. alerting you when your house is being flooded, this is the thing to buy. It will wake the dead. It's so loud it startles me when I'm in the basement, at the other end of the house. Now, I use it to alert me when my water containers are filled. We have a reverse-osmosis filter and super low water pressure, so it takes literally hours to fill a water dispenser jug. So of course it gets forgotten and overflows and we waste water, and ain't nobody want that. So now that I have this thing, I dandle the sensor into the jug at the desired fill level and it lets me know when to shut off the water. If only it weren't so darn loud! Or rather, if only it had more than one volume setting! I had to wrap it in high density foam, and it's still ear-piercingly loud at short range, when I come to turn off the water.

Works well and is loud
We have had issues with the kids overflowing the bath and flooding the bathroom which sometimes also extends down the hall. In order to help prevent this I found this device and thought it was worth a go. Saves the effort and damage associated with any flooding clean-up. It is very easy to use and certainly loud enough to warn you when the bath is high enough (we can hear it go off at the other end of the house). Gave us all a fright the first time we used it and watched the water get closer to the sensor waiting for it to go off (note: it goes off when the middle of the sensor gets wet, not the edge). The kids actually like this as they get to choose what alarm sound or music they hear. It isn't the most attractive thing with the wire sticking out but I don't really care given the low cost and the fact it works.

Hopefully others will have a better experience than mine
Item arrived fast, packaging was adequate. After installing a new 9V battery and installing it in my basement it was all set. I had the first false alarm in about 8 minutes. I went downstairs and reset the alarm. The next false alarm was in about 3 minutes. I went back downstairs and reset again. I now checked the electrode and found that it is bone DRY. The third and final false alarm was in about another 10 minutes. I now have no faith in this unit. It must go back. Hopefully others will have a better experience than mine. Seems cheaply made and not functioning as described.

Great as Standalone or with Wireless Alarm / Auto Dialer
I bought this unit to work with the Ideal wireless alarm / auto dialer (which is also a great product). As a standalone, the unit is the loudest water alarm I have heard yet. However, since I plan to use multiple units that will be placed in my basement and garage, I linked them to the wirless alarm / auto dialer. The auto dialer has had no trouble receiving a signal from the alarm, which is down one floor and separated by several walls and doors (probably a total of 40-50 feet directly between unit and auto dialer). Now that I tested the first unit and am happy with it, I am buying a couple more to place by my water heater and sump pump pit.

Stopped working relatively quickly
The unit worked great for the first week or so. After the alarm triggered properly for the 3rd or 4th time it now sounds continuously. I moved it to a dry place and still goes off when everything is 100% dry.

Tested ok
Fortunately have not had a situation where the alarm was needed but the test worked well and the alarm sound is remarkably loud!!!!

Great for avoiding bathtub overflow
If you live in a condo or apartment, get something like this because tub overflow causes a surprising amount of damage. My neighbour is on the hook for a $5,000 insurance deductible because she forgot that her tub was filling. I tested the alarm by dipping it in water and it went off instantly. The suction cup on the sensor sticks to the inside of the tub but I also kept the cord short so if the suction cup failed, it wouldn't fall into the water. I haven't needed the alarm to remind me yet but it's so nice to know it's there. Both alarms are quite strident and impossible to ignore although the chime is a little less alarming. There is no problem with water splashing onto the sensor while the tub is filling if you place it on the far end of the tub. I just turn the unit off and put it away in the cupboard between baths.
