Supergirl Vol 1: The girl of steel by Jeph loeb, tells the story of Supermans cousin Kara Zor- El. A teenage kryptonian girl who has the same powers as Superman. Hit and miss.
Hit and miss. Doesn't live up to the excellent introductory story found in Superman/Batman vol 1 which was stunningly illustrated by Michael Turner. This volume starts alright, but in the second half takes a nose-dive as it seems to lose direction and includes some stories that make no sense due to being part of crossover storylines not included here.

The Girl of Steel - Fighting Against Foes And Continuity
This new volume collects issues #0-10 and #12 of the Pre New 52 Supergirl series. The story starts as a direct continuation from Jeph Loeb's earlier Supergirl story in Superman/Batman, so it may be best to start with that story (which is collected as a separate volume) for ease of reference, but it isn't necessary as there are some flashbacks that summarise those events.Anyway I found this collection to be entertaining overall throughout, but there was a continuity issue about half way through as the events of this series at the time were interrupted by the Infinite Crisis event. As such, after the first story ends, there's a leap forward to a completely unconnected story that finds Supergirl in a situation that is never really explained and really doesn't make much sense really. Still, it's entertaining to read if you treat it as two unconnected stories, but I'd say the first half of the book is definitely strongest. The art is largely by Ian Churchill, who didn't shy away from all variety of gratuity in his panels, so if that's not your thing then you might not like a lot of this book, but there's more to it than that and I found it a visually appealing and good accompaniment to the story.Overall this is a good story and provides a good chance to go back and get a bit more of Supergirl if you've only had exposure to the New 52 version and like me, were frustrated by the cancellation of that series. If you've read this series before and have the older collections of it that were published already, it doesn't offer anything new. As a Supergirl fan, I would have given it 5 if not for the continuity issues mentioned previously.

A poor showing for DC's Maid of Might
The first few stories feature the Superman family of characters being jerks to one another reason on very flimsy pretexts for the sake of cheap drama and to keep the titular character apart from them. Throughout the volume the hypersexualization of the 15-16 year old character is deeply off putting and unsettling. Would not recommend.

Supergirl for the Win
The beginning of my favorite Supergirl comic series compiled into a very nice graphic novel. Good color. High quality pages. Not difficult to read the bits that are in the center, bound to the spine of the book. Big fan of the way this graphic novel is put together.
