Hinge is a major weakness
I have two major issues with this bench, that I’m currently discussing with the manufacturer.1) from new, the hinge for the bench “back” pokes in to your bum/back when lying on the bench in the horizontal position. I put some pipe lagging over it which helped but it’s still annoying2) worse, the hinge itself has bent over the last 18 months of use so that the bench sags in the middle when horizontal and is a safety hazard as sooner or later i suspect it will shear. If the manufacturer can resolve the issue I’ll update the review.

Good quality, padding is just right - not too ...
Pros:Good quality, padding is just right - not too soft but is supportive, frame is solid. Took about an hour to build it by myself. The finished product is unobtrusive in a corner of the living room. The mechanism to adjust the angle of incline uses a pin - which is a little fiddly at times - but is secure once the pin is in.Cons:The seat is a little crooked on mine compared with the backrest. It's only off by about 5 degrees but it's noticeable when viewed straight on. Seems to be a problem with the location of the holes in the actual padded seat, as the underlying frame looks straight and true. Not enough of an issue for me to make it worth returning it, as it is a heavy item, and doesn't really affect the function in any way, but a little disappointing for a brand new item.

I think its awsome especially for the price !£80
Reading a lot of negative reviews I was a little hesitant however it is perfect! I’m a 5ft 4 girl and I o lay weight 60kg , but I can’t see any reason why someone much taller would have issues with its size. People were complaining about it taking ages to build? ? I never build anything and I managed it in 40 mins (you need a decent wrench for sure) all the pieces are numbered in stages in a sealed packet!Secondly and this one makes me laugh!! People were saying there is a massive gap ..... that would be because they have put the small board on BACKWARDS 🤣🤣🤣Ohh and The leather is not real (of corse), the wood is cheap too so not suitable for outdoors atall

Essential bit of kit for the home gym
The bench is easy enough to fit together however the rater flimsy punch-cut "spanners" that come with it aren't that great for tightening the bolts. The job was much easier with my own spanners so I recommend you use them. The bench is comfortable to use and adjusts well from horizontal to 90 degrees vertical. It feels stable at the weights I'm using (60kg + 80kg body mass) and it's now central to my home gym.It can't be folded up for storage so it is a permanent bench but for that you get the extra stability at higher weight. My only grumble is that it cannot do a decline for decline presses etc but it is possible to raise one end on barbell plates but that is not a very safe or satisfactory solution. In general it is a great bench for the price and well worth the investment. I have had this now a year and a quarter too. almost daily use. great reliability

Poor finish - very poor construction - does not work
Arrived promptly - easy to put together - poor finish. Not sure how these pass inspection the base construction had been marked as was the main cushion but given I t is not for show I am not worried. The biggest issue is the pin that adjusts the back bar will not go into the last locator so it will not lay flat. Really disappointing York you must do better I bought because of the brand but will avoid in future.

Great value & quality with very minor issues
York really are the experts in home fitness and this bench is yet another great addition to any home set up. I got this to use with my York weights and it is perfect for your basic bench exercises. The quality feels good and the seating is padded but firm enough also. As far as putting it together is concerned, even I was able to do it - albeit with a good bit of thinking time and about 3 hours spare. All tools were provided too which was fantastic. However there were very minor issues but none that would put me off buying this. Firstly, the bottom seat had some kind of ‘grime’ on it, even though it was wrapped brand new. However I was able to clean this off. Secondly, whilst the gap between the back rear and the seat is not enough to to cause an issue when lying flat, if you’re not aligned properly the joint will hurt the base of your spine. Other issues include it’s a little unstable when attempting reverse incline exercises (front of body against the back rest) to the point where it could topple over. It’s also not very ‘long’ so if you’re quite tall you will have problems. I’m 5ft 11 and it’s literally just big enough for me.So this bench is most definitely not perfect, but it is the best you’re going to find for home use and is worth the price paid for it as it’s much more expensive elsewhere.

Great quality bench!
Bought this along with the hardcastle bench/squat rack. Together you can perform just about any exersise.Great quality and very solid, but not too heavy. This also has small wheels at one end and a handle on the front edge of the seat. So if you lift it slightly you can wheel it into different postions ect. Also pretty easy to assemble. I took me an hour and im not great at putting stuff together but with the way the components are numbered in stages makes it way easier than some stuff ive done.Would reccomend!

I would buy it again.
I bought this for home use. For the price, you get an excellent bench, sturdy enough and no risk of tipping over etc. I had no problems with the packaging or the padding, everything arrived in one box, promptly, and in brand new condition. The bench seems to fold perfectly flat to my eye, some people suggest otherwise, maybe this is a historical fault that has been rectified. If there is a gap between the small pad and the large pad......then you have put the small pad on the wrong way around, rotate it 180 degrees and it is fine.I am 5'11'' and it is fine for day to day to training, a longer bench would probably be in the £200-£300 price range, for less than £70 this is great, I cannot fault it. Construction is a simple affair, but rather than use the two spanners provided which make it a bit fiddly, use an 8'' adjustable and a socket set which will make it easier, saying that, its easy enough with the spanners. I would recommend this to anybody except the serious trainers who are pressing their own body weight etc, I am 95kg and press 60kg on it no problems.
