Both work good, after my husband pulled the fan away from the mounting bracket.

My small townhouse depends on having a working fireplace to get us through the winter. So when one of the fan died in mid November, I looked online, and was very happy to find this product on Amazon. The fan arrived in a few days, then I started the process of removing the old fan and connecting the new one. The first time I plugged this fan in, it didn't work. I had to spend about 40 minutes troubleshooting the problem, which wasn't pleasant at all since it requires me to heat up the fireplace, try connecting the fan to the connecting cable for the other (working) fan in the fireplace -- resulting in my hands getting burned in a couple of places in the cramped fan compartment directly below the fireplace.The end result was, the plastic fan blades were somehow shipped in a way that pushed it into the spindle, therefore touching the metal base and therefore stuck in that position. I was able to pull the fan blades away from the metal base, and then it was able to rotate freely. It was just a bad design that allowed it to be pushed in. Original fan in the fireplace didn't have that problem.

It is a tight fit to install the fan, but once installed in the fireplace it continues to work well.
