impressed. going to try bonsai with it.
impressedbased on some of the negative reviews I was a little skeptical that this was going to be a pretend grow light and not usable.on first impressions I like this light for the money in both design and function.I want to try raising some bonsai indoors as we now live in an apartment with only north facing windows, no direct sunlight and not much indirect.I agree with what others have said about this light, but I will restate them here:like: + bright; don't look at the led array when you first plug it in, I did, not painful but they sure are bright. + narrow beam cast; 18" up: gives a 18" 'bright' area on the ground which falls close to zero light 40" along the ground when viewed at night. + low profile, so it looks better in my living area. + the leds are recessed in the fixture so not only is the light 'focused' but side light and eye strain doesn't happen; ie one doesn't see the actual leds when the light fixture is at eye level. + design of the light is nice; yes it's cheap plastic to the touch, but doesn't look cheap. + the hanging system is well done, cheap, but works well.tip: if one assembles the 2 hanger wires such a single strand goes to opposite sides it allows the light fixture to be easily and with stability 'tilted' from horizontal, both front/back and left/right. + the power connector has a nice tight fit; I had to give it some effort to insert the plug into the light fixture; I wanted a longer cord so I used a 'computer' power cord I had that was 10' long; ie nice it uses a standard power connector.don't know if it's going to be bright enough for my bonsai, but will try to remember to update this review after a few weeks.update 8.7.2015: it's been 3 weeks now and my bonsai are doing just fine.my hybrid: papillosus x impressus (california lilac) lost a dozen or so leaves, but nothing the last week or so. I suspect the leave loss was due to me downsizing the bonsai and not watering enough, ie daily. Since I figured the watering out, all is well. The green mound juniper seems to like these lights too. Both bonsai show new growth and color(when taken away from these strong blue/red lights <grin>).I have the lights come on at 6am and off at 10pm.the lights are aprox 9" from the top of the bonsai, which also places the lights 22" off the 'floor', ie bottom of the pots.

FIX FOR FAILED LIGHTS INSIDE (You get what you pay for)
This thing lasted less than one year. Now there is one entire strip of LEDs that no longer function. I know it didn't cost much so QC is likely non existent but it's still disappointing. When it worked it was really bright, though.FIX:OK, for the fix, its not a total fix. It's more of a partial fix. My light failed and it was an entire strip of led's. However, in that strip, most were very dimly lit. These LED's are assembled in SERIES. So, when one dies, the whole row dies. If this happens to yours, look closely at the LED's while plugged in and see if you can spot one that is COMPLETELY DEAD. If so, that's your culprit. On mine, I located that one, which was at the end (since the whole strip was dead). I took it apart, carefully scratched the PCB board to expose some copper foil, and I literally soldered a tiny piece of copper wire to jump that one LED. You are simply bypassing it. Like I said, it won't FIX your light, but it will reduce you to one dead LED instead of a whole strip. Hopefully this helps someone because the manufacturer clearly it not interested in standing behind the product. If this helps you out or useful information, please mark this as helpful! Thanks!

it was SO nice to order something all set to go and plug ...
I can't speak more highly about this LED grow light panel. This was my first serious investment for seed starting and just WOW. Here I was trying to use a dinky plant/aquarium florescent strip light and in dismay, watched as my first round of seedlings become sickly and leggy, flopping over. I was getting extremely frustrated and realized I needed to do some research and change my approach. I kept reading about how many people were shifting to LED lights for growing and I can attest that you will have mega success with this light. Sure, you can rig up a bigger, more customized, and more affordable lighting setup from raw materials...but personally, it was SO nice to order something all set to go and plug in - and with prime, it came next day! I was so happy, I bought a second.I tried to figure out using the included wire hanger, but it is VERY thin/cheap and broke on me quickly. Not a problem, though, as I ended up using my 4 ft ladder with two long metal L pieces from home depot and the LED slid right in above my plants. It doesnt look pretty, but it is highly effective. The panel barely emits any heat, uses VERY limited power (no crazy increase in electric bill since using for the last few months for about 14 hours a day), and I will just let my photos speak for themselves on success. My seeds were started 2 months ago and I have never seen such healthy plants. The range of light span for needs of plants is great (obviously the higher its place, the bigger the range. I probably have over 100 plants under 2 of these and they are all strong and happy. Can't want to transplant them outside once it cools down. I also plan to try out one or two tomato plants under the panels for winter growing inside after I'm done with this round. Not sure how that will go but I'm hopeful! If you want to grow healthy plants...this is the way to go. LED red and blue lights FTW! I keep in my upstairs spare bedroom and the window to outside is a fun purple. I wonder what everyone thinks is going on, ha.

If you doing this to test growing your first plants id recommend this product for sure
i have two of these set up for the past month and week about. The cannabis is growing extremely healthy and veg state is doing well.. There's not too much notable heat but you can feel it with you hands touching the lights. I bought a rack as well at home depot and have created a drainage to ensure the roots are sitting in liquid..If you doing this to test growing your first plants id recommend this product for sure. attached are a few photos. Rack was 19.99 at home depot, i used heavy duty velcro and two screws 2 1/2" length on each light to mount.. There on their way =o)
