Manolito Gafotas (Manolito Four-Eyes) (Spanish Edition)

Love the book's concept!
Love the book's concept, but the Spanish is over my head. We used this book for our Spanish Book Club and we had to have a native Spanish speaker explain all of the idioms and phrasal verbs in this book. If I could read it, I think that I would be laughing out loud.

I love it
This is a book that includes coloquialisms of Madrid! I used to live there so it brought back memories. If you want something fun in Spanish, this is the series for you. I have read it to my children and sometimes they can't keep their sizes from aching. We have read almost the whole series. One or two out there we have not found yet.

Kids Adventures in Spain
Good book to read for intermediate to advanced Spanish learner. Some of the slangs are from Spain and not used in Latin America, but the meaning can be found easily in the Internet. Very entertaining adventures of a smart kid who lives in a working class neighborhood in a city in Spain.

Good Product
Good Spanish book to read. Came in wonderful condition. Only reason for 4 stars is that I wasn't in love with the story, but a good read nonetheless.

A GOOD WAY TO LEARN SPANISH
I am having a blast reading (and translating) this book. Each page is funnier than the last. The author, Elvira Lindo, really understands kids.

A troubled young life
The book "Manolito Gafotas" is about a young boy explaining about all the troubles about his life. Manolito is a chatterbox who is a little overweight, he's about ten years old. Manolito Gafotas was named after his dad's favorite truck. His best friend is Big ears Lopez (who is sometimes a dirty dog traitor.) Mrs Asuncion a lady who thinks that all her students are delinquents, but she never loses hope that they'll change. And last Ozzy the bully the biggest bully in the neighborhood.I like this book because unlike some books I've read the main character isn't the best,I also like it because like some of my favorite books it really shows how the main character feels from deep inside,It's also hysterical and adventurous. One more reason I liked it is because it's good to know what it was like for your dad when he was a kid (he's from Spain). The way I graded the stars was by doing each star based on one important thing about the story, the five different things were the conflict, plot, characters, descriptions, pictures. The conflict and plot were great the detail was amazing, and the characters were so good that they seemed real! But I didn't think the pictures deserved a star. But I would still definitely recommend it as a read it.

some of the situations in which Manolito becomes involved are ridiculous and easy to visualise
In the end I couldn't resist laughing, some of the situations in which Manolito becomes involved are ridiculous and easy to visualise. However, I didn't really feel Manolito always behaved like a real child I might know - and as a Primary School teacher for many years I do know many real children ! Moreover, I found myself preoccupied wondering who the book was written for, I wasn't quite sure whether it was really intended for children, or adults. It's not that important, but it seemed to me that Manolito is a child presented to the reader, adult reader, as if he were the epitome of an average/normal child, when clearly he isn't. I'm not sure child readers would appreciate much of the humour. Having said that, I'm obviously in a minority as there is quite aseries of these books in Spain and they are wildly popular.Neverthless, despite my criticism, if I were to be asked to compare Manolito (in Spanish) with his English language schoolboy peer, Wimpy Kid and which one I would recommend to young readers, Manolito would win.

Entertaining and useful for Spanish learners
A very funny and well written book demonstrating the combined naivety and wisdom of Manolito as he gets himself into, and his beloved abuelo gets him out of, various scrapes. As a level B2 Spanish learner I found this easy enough to read along with a dictionary and access to online discussions about the many colloquial expressions used. I enjoyed it so much that I'm going to read all the other Manolito Gafotas books.

As advertised, overall good buy
The book was in good quality, and arrived promptly. I needed it for my Spanish class and it arrived sooner than most of the other student’s books did. The book itself is a good book, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their Spanish reading level.
