Old Windows Made Easy: The Simple Way to Restore Wood Windows

Good beginners book but check out his larger guide,
Spring for the larger book. This is a great guide for someone new, but if you watch his videoโs you already know most of what is in this books he has a larger book that might be more worth the investment. I donโt fell bad buying this though - glad to help him out - his videos more then paid for the value.

Perfect for Someone With Some Woodworking Experience
As a somewhat handy person (experience with renovation work and no stranger to table saws or drill presses), this book is exactly what I was hoping for. Straight forward, step-by-step instructions on how to refurbish old windows. It seems to be written for people like me, who don't know anything about windows but who also don't need lessons on carpentry methods. A complete beginner may need more details (see other reviews to verify), but if you are already comfortable with tools and handy work, this book should be all you need.

Great way to learn about and fix your older windows
So ... Iโm probably not going to fully restore my old attic windows (though this would be exactly the book Iโd need if I was going to do it ... and some day I might) but this book gave me exactly what I needed to know to be able to repair the ropes so I could open and close them safely. Great step-by-step directions.

I love how positive and can-do this author is--it's really encouraging
I love how positive and can-do this author is--it's really encouraging. Instructions are especially good for repairing old windows that have been painted shut or that might need taking apart and reassembling for some reason. Less information for folks who might have missing stops or muntins or more serious issues.

Don't get me wrong: this is a good book. It covers most of the basic aspects of handling and repairing the windows of old houses, but it falls short of covering the details of full restoration and sealing. At $50 for 75 smallish pages, it's outrageously expensive. I'd recommend it if it were (much) cheaper or more comprehensive, but it's just not worth this price.

A good guide to restoring windows
Itโs a good book on restoring windows but I would recommend the new version Old Windows in depth - The complete Window restoration handbook instead.

Small book
Great info but definitely overpriced for the amount of content. Don't know what I was expecting though. The content is good and informative but for the price - I was under the impression that the content would have been more in depth.

It's a start, but would prefer more detailed information about how traditional wood windows are built, installed and repaired.

Nicely organized and great illustrations
Really for someone who has never done an old window removal or repair. Nicely organized and great illustrations. Clear instructions. I was looking for more information about products and replacement parts. Note: recommended products may not be available in Canada.
