Chinese Tattoo Art: Traditional & Modern Styles (French Edition)

This is by far the best Tattoo Art book that I have ever bought; and I have a large collection of Tattoo Art books that I have collected for the past 30 years. The first section of the book, pages 6-25, explains the EVOLUTION OF CHINESE TATTOOING in thorough detail. Next; the MOTIFS section, pages 26-47, is very complete; with a picture and a paragraph or more explaining the Chinese perception of the MOTIF such as the DRAGON, PHOENIX, TIGER, etc, etc. The last section; the CHINESE TATTOO ART PICTURE SECTION goes from pages 48-465. The PICTURE SECTION shows EXCELLENT, BIG, CHINESE TATOO ART PICTURES; featuring 39 CHINESE TATTOO ARTISTS. Each tattoo picture is on one page; and the page is 12.5 inches tall; by 9.5 inches wide on heavy quality paper. Each tattoo artist has many pictures of their tattoo art displayed in this book. Of the 39 tattoo artists; only 4 of the artists gave interviews explaining their tattoo art work. The other 35 tattoo artists have a picture of themselves; with many pages of their tattoo art work; with no interview of them explaining their tattoo art work. So, if you want an interview of each tattoo artist explaining their work; you will only get 4 interviews of the 39 tattoo artists featured in this book. If you don't care about the interviews, and only want to look at BIG, BEAUTIFUL TATTOO ART WORK ON QUALITY PAPER; then this is a good book for you. The book is well made and is very big and heavy because it is written in 4 languages; it is hardback, with big heavy quality paper; and it is 496 pages.

Having many Japanese tattoo books this is the first one on Chinese tattooing that I found and bought. Very interesting and being of Chinese decent I found that the artists whether from Taiwan or Mainland China do not at least in this book project any political ideologies in their work. This is very welcoming to me as art in it's essence brings or solidifies their complete audience. This book does that efficiently.I have hopes of contacting several of these artists to incorporate some of their artwork to the piece I have already.It is a very good starting reference book as I am sure there are many more Chinese tattoo artists out there in Asia.Note: This book is translated into several languages so it is large. This is my only dislike as the excessive resources to print this book also adds to the cost can make it a hard sale. They can make more sales if there were optional prints in each language.

FANTASTIC !!!!

This book is huge!! It weighs a ton!! The photographs are stunning and fill the pages with close ups so you can see all the detail. So many different designs, sizes and styles of oriental tattoos. This book will be such a help to choose a tattoo. Should be on the coffee table of all tattoo artists and those that appreciate the work that goes into such masterpieces.

8 year old book and it shows, Tattooing has come along way in this time and it highlights no decent artists or work that pushes any boundaries. The picture on the front cover is the best in the book. I am returning it as its a disappointment even for £35, couldn't imagine paying £100 for it! Be better off getting yourself a years subscription to Total Tattoo magazine.

Ich habe bereits diverse Bücher über asiatische Tattoos. Sicherlich eines der besten in Deutschland erhältlichen Bücher ist schon lange das im gleichen Verlag herausgegebende "Tattoo in Japan".Wer sich etwas mehr mit Motiven asiatischer Tattoo Künstler auseinandersetzen will, sollte zwingend dieses Buch dazu kaufen. China hat wirklich sehr talentierte Künstler, die über die letzten Jahre ihren eigenen sehr farbenfrohen und perfektionistischen Stil entwickelt haben.Die Auswahl der Motive ist wirklich vielfältig und das Buch liefert ein breites Spektrum.Auf 20 Seiten erfolgt zunächst eine schriftliche Einführung in Chinesische Tattoowierkunst. Auf weiteren 20 Seiten werden traditionelle Motivinhalte erläutert und ihr Backround im Bezug zur Chinesischen Geschichte und Mystik erklärt. Dabei sind die Texte in Deutsche, Englisch, Französisch und Chinesisch geschrieben.Der Rest des Buches zeigt auf fast 450 Seiten eine riesige Auswahl an weitestgehend großen Arbeiten von ganzen Sleeves über komplette Rücken- oder Brustattoos.Auf keinen Fall vom recht hohen Preis abschrecken lassen. Das Buch ist sein Geld mehr als Wert und es macht immer wieder Freude durchzublättern und immer wieder neue kleine Details in den Arbeiten zu entdecken.Am Ende des Buches ist noch eine lange Liste chinesischer Tattoostudios sowie eine Verlagseigenwerbung für die anderen Bildbände aufgeführt.Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung !
