The shelves arrived in surprisingly good condition—likely a reflection of the relatively short shipping distancerequired for delivery. The finish on the shelves was satisfactory but leaves room for improvement.

Very glad to be able to obtain additional black shelves in this size. And in terms of construction and sturdiness, they match exactly what was expected.But the inside of one of the four pipe sleeves situated at each corner contained sharp unfinished edges inside. Which made the shelf difficult to slide on that corner, and ultimately stripped large sections of the black powder coating off the pole while getting the shelf into place.Which is particularly unfortunate for a black shelving unit, since you're exposing gray steel where the pole used to be black. Rather than say on a chrome unit, where "steel instead of chrome" might not be as visible.

I had purchased the four shelf unit, plus the set of shelves and a extra set of legs for what my husband calls the "fiber arts studio" in our new home. I was not sure when I was setting up the space exactly what I was going to need, so I figured I might as well have more than less. I set up the four shelf unit, placing the bottom shelf high enough to place spare sewing machines and storage totes underneath. The poles are notched in one inch increments allowing for you to design the shelf placement to your exact needs. The set of two shelves plus the set of legs provided another unit. The system is sturdy enough to allow the bottom shelf to be placed 12" from the floor. The shelves DO come with the clamps for the poles to position the shelves. I had not seen this in the original description and ordered an additional set. I decided it was not worth the postage to send them back.

Update --Vendor charged for return, despite item was not the advertised item. despite Review of the 36W x 18D shelf. Shelf construction looks ok, but not the Alera brand --- but more importantly, the post holes have a different separation ~ 1/4 to 3/16 inch shorter separation in the 36in direction. This means they will not properly fit on posts already holding the Alera shelves , a basic compatibility problem.

I build a black rack in my office with these to hold printers, charging station, etc. My 6 year-old grand-daughter saw it for the first time and said, "Cool!". How often does that happen? My rack is 6 feet tall, so I attached it to the wall to prevent a tip-over accident as WE ALL should do with any tall piece of furniture. The plastic sleeves that set the shelf height are easy to work with. I had to make adjustments after it was assembled and it fairly straight-forward. I strongly recommend the shelf liners to keep small items from falling through the gaps between the wires.

The Alera model SW584824BL Wire Extra Shelves are very strong and durable. there are some shelves out there states they can hold a certain amount of weight, but when half of the stated weight is reached the shelves starts to bend and buckle. that's not the case with the Alera shelves, the product description is spot on for these shelves. I do recommend if extra shelves are needed, I also feel the price could be lower. the plus side of the is the Shelf Lock Clips were included.

Purchased these to add a 6th shelf to two other shelving units of the same size, match is nearly perfect. The only thing that doesn't match the original pieces of the unit is the center support bar; however I noticed that prior to purchasing, so I didn't care and planned for it.The existing units were purchased from another, heavy duty, manufacturer. (Don't ask me the name, I don't remember and don't care to hunt around for it.) But they didn't offer extra shelves, so these were chosen. Fit is flawless.

Works well with my Intermetro verticals. I couldn't find square shelves from previous vendors and hoped these would work. They do and I am very satisfied with the product. They appear to be of the same quality. I shall see after a few months of wear and tear (at least not in my garage but in my office).
