Asparagus officinalis: This Mediterranean native is one of the first vegetables harvested in the spring. Asparagus is among the foods identified as having the highest levels of Glutathion (GSH), a potent anticarcinogen/antioxidant, that defends against cancer. Asparagus is easy to start from seed, but you'll get an earlier harvest from our 1 year old crowns. Culture Asparagus is a hardy perennial The key to good production is well-prepared, deeply dug beds with lots of organic matter Fertilize beds early in the spring and after harvest with 1-2 cups of TSC's Complete fertilizer per 10 row feet Keep beds moist Direct Sowing Not recommended Transplanting Start transplants 60-90 days before your last frost Transplant seedlings after the danger of frost Asparagus Root Crowns Plant your 1 year old crowns shortly after you receive them Crowns can be transplanted 4-6 weeks before last frost Dig a 4-6 inch trench; create a hill in the center Drape roots over the hill; cover roots with soil Fill in trench as asparagus grows Complete instructions are included with your order Insects & Diseases Common pests: Asparagus beetles and slugs Pest control: Pyrethrin, slug traps or bait Common diseases: Rust, Fusarium wilt, Fusarium stem and crown rot Disease prevention: Maintaining good plant vigor Harvest & Storage A moderate 2-3 week harvest can be expected from crowns in 2-3 years Harvest spears when they're 6-10 inches tall, cutting them off about 1 inch below soil surface Store at 36°F and 100% relative humidity To maintain perennial bed, leave smaller spears to mature into ferns which will regenerate the plant With each successive year, your plant productivity and harvest window will increase

Don't waste your money
If I knew these were coming from China (and past the expected delivery date) I would never have bought them. I opened a rumpled box describing the contents as "ornament". There were no instructions inside. I rummaged inside the coarse packing to find nothing then realised the packing was actually dessicated plant matter. Well. I've not seen any sort of plant in a sorrier state since some diesel got onto our lawn in the 1960s. If these things could grow at all (other than mould) I'd be astonished. The description makes the item sound as though it's coming from the UK. I thought you needed a license to import plant matter from China - has Amazon made me break the law?

That these plants come from China and delivery can be delayed
Arrived by date given. Well packed. Cannot comment on result asparagus takes a good year to mature into an edible crop. Have planted as per instructions and Information gathered on line hopefully we shall soon see if they are growing.

Not great quality and very small. Not sure I got the full amount.
Not great quality and very small. I planted them late autumn and got just one small shoot. I know this was probably the wrong time so I am hoping more shoots come up in the spring.

Almost on time
Just 3 days late; pretty good given the virus circumstances in China, from where the crowns came from. Ordered 5, got mixed sizes, wrapped in single sheet clingfilm in a well sealed cardboard box. Happy to see no rubber bands around roots. Roots were dry and dusty, so now soaking for planting later this AM.

Dead
Bought these May 2020, looked dead but planted them as per instructions. (I am an experienced amateur gardener) the ground and soil were well prepared. It is now November 2021, No sign of life. I lifted them to see what was happening, just mush. Mostly rotted away.I didn’t know they were coming from China, I believed they were from the Netherlands. £14.00 wasted. Disgusting. One star is far too generous. Keep well away....
