Not for hamsters
I purchased this from my local petco store, for my new pet hamster. It died 3 weeks later suddenly wheezing, with labored breathing that started the night before, and she died in the morning. I took her back to the store, the person who handles the hamster saw the wood chips stuck on the blanket. And said that most likely killed her. They recommended instead a paper based product, but all their various bedding that is labeled for all small animals , safe and dust free are misleading. Within the paper based products, I was told to not buy a specific type. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, the labeling states it all safe for small animals.

Do not buy has mites
I have tried this litter more than once and my animals have suffered. The first time I used this litter my gerbils got little red mites. I didn't know how they got them and thought it might be something that was in my basement apartment. I threw out all the bedding I had (stored next to the cage) because it also had some mites in it. I don't buy from petco often so I purchase another brand of wood bedding and treated the mites. The second time I bought this stuff in store because I was conned into fostering lots and lots of baby rats for a friend who could no longer care for them. I needed bedding right away to house them. It happened again all of those poor babies and mom got mites from this litter. I ended up calling my local rat rescue to figure out what I should give them and doses because we don't have a small animal specialist in my area.Apparently from my research bedding gets mites and lice in storage from being around wild rats. I would suggest that anyone buying this bedding freeze it for a couple of days before using and treat your pets with revolution if they do get the mites. Please please do not give them horse medication or any other type of home remedy.

Heavy Scented. Not For Small Creatures
For small animals, always buy kilned pine chips. This or Aspen chips. Never Cedar. These chips would be create buy they have a scent to them that is harmful to small animals like mice, hamsters, rats, hedgehogs.Because this isn't kilned, it could also have mites. Not worth it!
