A Fast Paced Story With Likeable Characters Even the Evil Ones!
Author Sherrilyn Kenyon had created an interesting way to view Mythology and create amazing stories from the many mythological characters many people have probably read about or heard about while growing up.We first were treated to her Dark Hunter series which in turn brought us into her Were Hunter and Dream Hunters as SECONDARY characters. However, many then begged for their stories and now we have the Were-Hunter, Dream-Hunter and Hellchaser series. This is Sherrilyn Kenyon's web site. You should really check out the blog and biography's/Pictures she has about her characters.[...]There may be spoilers....We first were introduced to the character of Xypher in Devil May Cry as his service was requested to help out therefore Hades lent him out. However, Hades never lends someone out without a bargain. Since Xypher was able to help in that situation he was allowed to live out ONE month on earth.Xypher figured that since he only had a month then it was back to being tortured for crimes the Gods believed him guilty of he was going after the person who tricked him into teaching him to invade other's dreams. This person is Satara (sister to Stryker, daughter of Apollo and slave to Atremis) also tortured those people. She tricked Xypher into admitting to her crimes then reneged on their deal. If that was not bad enough, she then came to watch as he was tortured for her crimes AND she laughed at him for believing her.He is out to find a way into her domain so he can kill her. Then we have Simone who is a medical examiner who can see spirits of those who have passed away but not gone over to the other side. She sometimes can get help from those spirits in solving their own murders.Unfortunately Satra has it in for Xypher and Simone just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then they are bounded together by an ancient piece of jewelry which will kill them both if they go to far from each other or if one is attacked and killed the other one dies as well. Satara figures tie him to a human because humans are easy to kill. The characters are likeable EVEN the bad ones. You just root for the rotten ones sometimes which says a lot in how an author can make even the most evil character likeable. It was funny, well paced, the interaction between the hero and heroine was hilarious as well as the secondary characters and their interactions. My only issue with this was how the Dimme Demon's character and Simone were tied together. It just seemed to be tacked on and not well developed. I was wanting to know more and see more interaction between Simone and her newly founded cousin.Over all this was a good book with a great story and likeable characters.

A Reading the Paranormal Review
Oh, Xypher. There is SO MUCH I like about this guy. He made a really bad choice back in the day and he's been paying in blood and bone ever since. And HE ACCEPTS that his punishment is just because he has this big heaping lump of honor inside him. The worst part about his story is that everyone believes he's some sort of ravening pyscho who drives mortals mad for laughs and he's not. HE'S NOT.*pets Xypher*Meanwhile, when Xypher isn't getting whipped by a skeleton (which isn't a euphemism for anything - there's a skeleton, it whips him), we get to see one of the ways that the Sumerian pantheon and the Greek pantheon are linked. Which is pretty cool. Not so much for Xypher, but the threads that were laid out in Sin and Kat's story are coming together here to make a bigger picture. And then there's Simone. Simone who has a gift and a ghost. Simone who gets dragged into the middle of everything and faces the very bad things that are coming after her and Xypher with fierce resolve. Those two are so cute together. Xypher's surliness pitted against Simone's teasing and stuck-in-the-80s ghost. The gallu threat is still present but several other issues are cleared up. We get a cameo by Ash (OMG! His book is nexxxxxxt!) and a new player is introduced who can do BIG things if his price is met.Whew. Time to tackle Ash's story.-Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

Dream Chaser
Simone Dubois sees dead people. Sheยขs a medical examiner and many of the dead bodies she sees donยขt stay dead. Ghosts come to her for help too. Unfortunately, Simone has never seen the ghosts of her family who were killed when she was a child. A ghost named Jesse and her co-worker, Tate are the closest resemblance to family Simone has now.Since his release from the torturous bowls of Tartarus, dream god Xypher has one thing on his mind- vengeance. So when he gets shackled to human Simone Dubois he is less than pleased. Because he helped a Dark-Hunter, Xypher is granted a temporary release from his own personal hell. He has one month on earth. One good deed could save him but Xypher is filled with hatred. His need to kill Satara-the one who sent him to Tartarus-consumes him.Simone is stuck with the hottest guy she has ever seen, but he has a really bad attitude, and thatยขs just the beginning of her problems. There are demons chasing them, and Simoneยขs about to have a life changing experience. As Xypher reluctantly gets to know his constant companion he starts to have feelings for her. He has only known pain and hatred his whole life though, so when he is forced to decide will Xypher choose vengeance or love?Xypher is a tortured hero with a few added twists. Heยขs a dream god with immense and really cool powers. Heยขs also angry, rude and has no social skills. I love him! Simone is tough and compassionate. Her real strength lies in her ability to break through the walls surrounding Xypher's heart though. Jesse endeared me to him with his love of eighties music, movie quotes, and horrible fashions. Demon fights, car chases, a sensual and tumultuous romance along with appearances by a few other oldie but goodie characters make Dream Chaser another great novel in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series!Nannettereviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Another great story in this series
Fans of this Sherrilyn Kenyon series will know the underlying blueprint for most of the tales by now. Two people come together, against all the odds, find that they can't live without each other and then pulled apart by the cruelest of fated. But just because you know the blueprint it doesn't take any of the enjoyment out of the read. The Dream-Hunter series which is a spin off from the Dark Hunter series, continues to engage and delight me with tales of the gods, demons, were-hunters and the mortals who go along with them for the ride.In this story we catch up with Xypher, released from Hades two books ago, and granted 1 month on earth in which to find his humanity or be returned for eternal torture. When he crosses path with a coroner at the scene of a gruesome death, it's a case of very bad timing as a Daimon turns up and thrusts a gold bangle on to them, forcing them to remain together.A gripping tale, filled with emotion and fire. These stories just get better and better.

Dark Hunter World - Dream Chaser
Yeay back to a good read again! I don't know if it's because the book is set back in New Orleans or whether it's just that we have got some of the previously mentioned characters back in this book but after the last couple of disappointing reads I loved this book. I loved Xypher's character, I think I must like men who have had a hard time as I liked Zarek in his book as well. I am actually intrigued to find out where the Jaden link will go which may or may not be set in New Orleans but I'll find that out when I get up to that book. This is the fourteenth book in the series and features the Dream Hunter/Skoti Xypher (who we have met before) and Simone Dubois a ME coroner. I won't go into the plot line too much as with me only recently discovering the series and trying to 'catch up' on the books obviously other readers have already posted reviews on this and quite a bit ago. Xypher has been given a month on earth by Hades due to the bargain Kat made with him for Xypher's help and all he initially has on his mind is getting revenge on the one who basically put him in Tartarus that is until he meets Simone. Xypher finds it hard to trust anyone but Simone's gentleness starts to break down his walls a bit and he finds for the first time in hundreds of years he is actually attracted to a woman again (not that he liked men but that he hasn't had any 'urges' for so long). Simone can see the dead, she doesn't know why until later on in the book but she can and by her work as a medical examiner she finds herself bound to Xypher quite literally! It took me quite a while to get around to discovering this series as when you look up Sherrilyn Kenyon on Amazon and these books in list order it actually shows Dragonswan as being the first book (but it's not) and Dragonswan is never ever available to buy! As a girl who likes to read all books in a series and most definitely the first one in a series, thinking that I couldn't get the first book did actually stop me starting the series. I have only just discovered that the first book is actually Fantasy Lover, read this and have now proceeded to order the rest of the series:) Sherrilyn has now joined the ranks on Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole on my favourite authors list.

Dream-hunters and demons
I made the mistake initially with the Dream-hunter series as thinking of them as a separate series to the Dark-hunter books. They're really not. You lose some important elements of the world if you don't read both strands, and let's face it, the Were-hunters aren't hived off as a separate series. I reckon the good guide is that if Acheron or any one of his connections shows up, it's really part of the same series, and Acheron does make a significant appearance in this story. You see the crossover clearly in the opening scene where our heroine, Simone is at lunch with Tate - the New Orleans city coroner we first met in Night Pleasures, rescuing Kyrian and Amanda from the daylight. The hero, Xypher, we have already met too - in Devil May Cry where he helps out Kat and Sin, and earns his time as a human, which is what we share here. The strongest connection plot-wise is undoubtedly with Devil May Cry, as we're awash with demons, particularly the Gallu we first met in that book.Simone teaches future pathologists, hence her connection with Tate. Her choice of career is driven by the tragedy of her childhood. We also, because of Simone's unique talent, get to meet some ghosts. Most importantly Jesse the young teen trapped in a 1980's timewarp that those of a certain age will remember vividly. He's great fun, and adds lightness and humour as another struggle between the defenders of humanity and those who want to rule the world at any cost ensues. We also get to meet Jaden - the demon broker, a character it's worth taking note of for future reference. He sounds like someone who really deserves his own story, for sure. The Simone-Xypher story is one of discovery. One discovers their humanity, and the other discovers something unique about their heritage and learns to embrace it. Together they find love and a future together.

Great Story
Again, Sherrilyn Kenyon is a great writer, she takes you along on a story, drawing you in and then delivering at the end of the book, which you do not want to end at that point so you need to buy the next book to continue, even though the next book is a completely new storyline it continues to tell the overall story of the characters in other books - its great.
