Amazing sequel! Can't wait for book 3!
The trauma Mattie Hathaway suffered at the hands of her former foster mother is only the latest in a series of horrible events she's had to survive, but it left scars deeper than her what her damaged hands show. Mattie deserves a break, but fate is not so kind. As her personal relationships fall apart around her, she has to escape, but her escape only drags her further into confusion and danger.I am a big fan of all of Apryl Baker's books, and I loved the first book in this series, so I was eager to get my hands on volume 2. When I was offered a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, I was delighted! The biggest question when starting a sequel is always whether or not it will live up to the first book. The Ghost Files Vol. 2 more than lived up to my expectations! While this second book wasn't quite as graphic as book one, it was still plenty scary. I had a hard time going to bed after finishing the book! Of course, that might have also had something to do with the fact that I started reading it at ten o'clock at night and read it well into the morning hours until I got to the end. I literally couldn't stop reading, and that doesn't happen to me very often anymore. The mystery that flows through this book was captivating, to say the least. There were many questions left unanswered at the end of book one about Mattie's past, and well as Dan's. Readers are in for a windfall of answers in this one as Mattie and a few new friends fight off some pretty scary beings intent of stealing their souls. That hardly means more questions won't follow, though! I loved learning about Mattie and Dan's pasts and how it will change their future plans. Baker certainly caught me off guard on more than one account! As far as the main storyline, I loved watching them confront their enemies and meeting the new characters like Eli and his family. I won't be forgetting them an time soon, especially Eli. Each new character followed up on the usual depth and complexity I've come to expect from Baker. Their interactions had me laughing at times, and tearing up at others. Readers will find it hard not to become emotionally invested in them. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them as Mattie and Eli's family continue hunting down scary creatures. If they're anything like the one they face in this volume, I'll be sure to start reading in daylight and plan on not moving for several hours!I'm not usually a horror reader, but I have loved both the Ghost Files books. I have every intention of continuing to read the series. As far as content, when it comes to romance and language, the story is prett clean. It can get pretty scary, though, so it's not for younger readers. Even though this is labelled as YA, I'd recommend it to older teens and adults who enjoy strong characters, a great mystery, a good scare.

Ghost Story
Perhaps a little predictable, but I'm really enjoying this series. Mattie is a great main character. Rough around the edges, but protective of those she loves. I'm enjoying the little bit of romance mixed in with horror. And, amazingly, she never cusses. (I do not mind cussing in books; but this seems more geared towards the Tween ages and is honestly clean). There are a few details that put it more into a higher age range (copious bloody imagery; mentions of "a pervy old man [ghost]"; violence against women) but it keeps it just on the line of understandable yet not overwhelming. Definitely a good read!

The second book of the series was even better than the first book
The second book of the series was even better than the first book. I was really hoping that would be the since most series the second book fell behind the expectation after a great start of the series. This book didn't disappoint me a bit. It added a new haunting creature in this book that got me excited. I loved to read anything that related to demons. There were plenty of mouth-dropping moment when I read the novel. Especially the truth about Dan's history since he was adopted. Knowing who his family was totally got me off guard. I really didn't see it coming. It wasn't what I originally thought it was either.Mattie was more brat in this book as well, but I did understand. Living in so many different homes made it harder for her to trust anyone and had her trust betrayed by the person she finally trust for the first time...it made her decided something without a second thought. It landed her in a different location where her life could be in danger. I didn't blame her, though. She was brought to New Orleans for a reason. And that reason...you'll need to read this book and find out what was it.We got to meet new characters as well. They're fun. It sort of reminded me of supernatural television show. Brothers...how could it not remind me of that? It took me a while to figured out that Eli had a different mother. But for some reason, Eli played a big role in this series. Something about Eli got me wondering...what was so important about him. Mattie wondered just the same. I guess that was a react the author hoped we, the readers, would have. There was a scene that reminded me so much about the Supernatural television show because of how Mattie and demon connected in the story. It was very similar to the show. I wondered if the author was a fan of the show? It didn't ruin the story for me either since it was still different. Just a concept of it reminded me of the show that was all.It was also amazing to see what kind powers Mattie had and how much she had to learn to be able to survive the unexpected scenarios. I also loved the fact that Eli and Caleb hunted the bad ghosts so it made the series exciter. I couldn't wait to read the third book and see what new and what was going to surprise me since it happened twice in the row. I was also looking forward to find out who Mattie's mother was and was his father a good person?I highly recommended the series!

Wow!
Another great book. I gotta tell y'all, this writer really knows how to get your hair to stand on end! Mattie is at it again. She flies to New Orleans and into a world of trouble when she goes to help rid a house full of ghosts. Now she's got a demon on her tail and a very strong vengeful ghost ghost trying to do her in. Crazy and amazing stuff going on. Great series by an author who really has an amazing imagination. This series is wonderful.

Another Tweenagers book i couldn't put down.
Ok. May be should have waited to read the second book for a while, as the narrator, Mattie, constantly tells you what you already know. Yes, you have trust issues, yes, your mom stabbed and tried to kill you, yes, you where kidnapped. .... it goes on and on. Get past that and the story finally continues.I find my self routing for Dan and Mattie really hard, totally sucker me in. Geezs, this is a tweenagers book and I am a full grown adult here!!!So bits are hard to swollow, like, they are being hunted by a demon and it shows up at the restaurant during a birthday meal and scares Dan & Mattie, but during this obviously terrifing moment they suddenly forget all about the demon outside the window and begin an argument!!!! I know this is ment to represent the teenage angst, but No. Just No. I don't care how hot someone is or how much you are conflicted about your feelings, you don't just forget about a Demon stalking you. Also some inappropriately timed flirting happens far to often with Eli, and the adults in the book just seem to smile and shake their heads in amusement, this also happens when ever Mattie punches someone.Even with that I still couldn't put the book down and finished in 2 sittings.Adding in the betrayal by her best friend was a killer. I want Mattie and Dan together.Very good twists in this instalment, and a better payoff.

Very Enjoyable But.......
I enjoyed this book hugely, it feels stronger than the first although I enjoyed that one too.The characters are well defined, at times slightly too repetitive but that didn't make too much difference in the way that I cared about them. The storyline itself is great and a few new nasties are well fleshed out! There is one problem, though, and it did become really annoying at times. So many words are wrong! It's obvious what the author wanted to put but somewhere in the proof reading/ editing things went very wrong ie "I don't mean to keep buggering you about it". Obviously it was supposed to say 'bugging' so how on earth did that slip through?! It's a shame as I would have given a 5* rating otherwise but it happens throughout the book, not just a couple of times.I have already downloaded the third installment - hopefully the problem doesn't persist as it did ruin it slightly for me.I would recommend both the first book and this one to anyone who enjoys a good story packed full of spooks

too much going on - and OTT
2* to 2.5The ghost action was really interesting, loved the mystery surrounding Mattie's and Dan's family - but I felt the book was ruined by the confusing relationship developments and all the charactersthe whole book is submerged with a surplus of characters and subplots that don't smoothly entwine. The plots jumps from one story tot eh next - we're dealing with one intense emotion to another. That's fine - as Mattie is a larger than life- but I felt it went OTTAdditionally, one minute Mattie is madly in love with Eric (Mirror Boy), then she's mad about a new guy (Dan's half brother - incestuous or what). And she's also clearly into Dan (my favourite and I hope they end up together). If she just liked them - or was intensely into them that would be fine - but it's like "OMG HE'S THE ONE!! MY LIFE WILL END IF WE CAN'T BE TOGETHER!!"It also seemed rushed

Enjoyable
I really liked the first instalment of this series, this second offering was entertaining but more emphasis was placed upon the feelings and love life of the teenage heroine. I felt that this aspect of the book was very repetitive and detracted, for me, from the solid supernatural storyline. Having sired 4 daughters I know all too well the changing moods of teenage girls and as a positive I must add that the way Mattie behaves in the book is close to reality. However I prefer a more Supernatural than Twighlight read at bedtime, her love life is downright confusing and as I said before feels at times like beating a dead horse.Having said all that I will buy the next book as I enjoy Miss Bakers style of writing. Hope they don't make the movie too love story though.
