Fun family project
We bought this for our 12 year old who has always wanted his own robot. The advertisement said it was suitable for 10 and up and was labeled as "beginner" and easily assembled. I would say you need to be a very mechanically inclined 10 year old to do it alone because it took both my 12 year old and my 41 year old husband to put it together. Once together it's really cute, but would be better if you didn't have to completely take the arms off every time you wanted to change positions. In order to switch between "orangutan," "gorilla" and the other two positions you have to unscrew the arms and put on the other arms. My husband and son had fun working on it together though and it was cute crossing the room above our heads, but it's as great as it could have been.

Be careful..parts break easily. Done by careful 7th grader.
Very dissapointed. Meant to write this review awhile ago as I normally dont do reviews unless Im super sad or satisfied. Parts where very cheap..my 12 year old hardly got anywhere before breaking a small plastic gear. I paid the quarter plus shipping to get the replacement part but we recieves the wrong part. Unfortunetly it was set aside as a to do thing that I still havent gotten around to calling and complaining about. Life just gets too busy to hassle that much over an inexpensive toy/project. Its too bad though I was hoping my son would get into robotics..he was for a little bit then got discouraged and moved on when the wrong part came. Now it sits on a shelf. Ugh...wish I didnt even see this now Im reminded of another thing I need to get to or throw away! The concept seemed cool with being able to order parts and a certificate once done. Just not worth the hassle when the wrong parts came.

OWI Jungle Robot Kit , most of the OWI kits are great with the instructions.
Love the little kit, for string walking, they fixed a few of the weakness to the kit that I had bought a few years ago, with plastic molded shafts replaced with metal. shafts tapped into the plastic.. A note, do not leave batteries in unit for more than 6 months in the heatwill make most battlers leak. The sliding the top on and off and remembering how to replace them..is sometimes a bit confusing to most newbies. It will take a little concentration and hand eye coordination for this kits assembly.. But it is a great little starter for the average mechanically minded person. You have two configuration of the hand over hand to the ground wobbler format..You better grease the sprocket if you plan on running it.. but be cautious where you place the grease too..The instructions are straight forward...for the person who wants a challenge.. I rate it 5 now. Don Fl

like it
My 9 year old needed his dad's help following the directions to put it together. But we are pleased with the final product. He especially enjoys making the noise to start it up. This was the first robot he has ever put together. I think it helped him to learn how the gears make it move.

Great fun
Bought this Robot for my son's science fair project on robots. he is 9yrs and he was able to assemble the robot by himself, which was awesome, in about 2hrs. It was pretty cool watching go across the rope. It was a big hit at the science fair!

Product is not what it used to be. We've used these for years at Summer Camp and this year it's been awful. Parts are missing and in some kits the arms are not right. Very disappointing to the children.

too easy . . .
bought this for my 7 yr old even though it said 10 & up. way too easy. he did it by himself without so much as a question. things that are more challenging are way more fun for him and this was so easy he almost seems bored. i think it should be labeled more like 6 and up.
