Chinese bike that is terrible
Bike arrived with broken battery, the crank pedal fell off because the taper was not machined properly. The handlebars would not attach because the bolt holes were not tapped. Three hours of fitting and machining got it working. Then the manufacture would not or could not send a new battery after literally hours of emails and long distance phone calls! No parts or warranty support at all. After waiting a month on a new battery and then a electronic controller that failed, it is being returned to Amazon who ALWAYS supports the customer for full refund! After this experience I could manufacture my own electric bicycle.

Great combo commuter bike
I looked at previous reviews before purchasing my bike. I found assembly was very simple. For anyone without some experience in maintaining a regular bicycle with derailure you may want help from a cycle shop. I had no problems with pedal retainer. Could be that the design has changed. The Shimano shifters are very precise but did take some minor adjustment at assembly. Components are not the highest grade but the technology in the motor and battery account for bicycle cost. I have found the bicycle very reliable and made commuting a 23 mile round trip much more enjoyable. The level of excersize is up to the rider. I am able to get 17 miles per hour on level road under electric power only. With assist it is actually less and requires rider effort but you can maintain speed without increased effort. So far I am very pleased with the product.

Should have bought different
I received my Yukon Trails Electric Mountain bike on May 6th. Since then I have found numerous nuts and bolts loose including the infamous loose crank nuts and sub-standard tapering of the crank ends. More alarming was a nut that held one side of the front brake caliper. One of the spokes from the rear wheel broke off. The rear derailleur is cheap and difficult to adjust. On the other side, the bike works rather well for what it claims to be/do. I didn't expect the bike to cart me around without my assistance. I think of it as me assisting the bike. I use the electric drive only when i need to. I get maximum exercise while being able to go more places. I cannot pedal the bike WITH high electric power assist on and exceed 20 mph. The bikes performance will not excite you. But it will give you assistance and good mileage if you work the bikes gears and 3-stage power assist levels as well as your legs. Between those 3 variables you will be able to go from 0-20 mph and cruise at least 20 miles distance. (Ive never gone more than 20 miles at a time) But after 20 miles it needs only a 3 hour charge. not bad. So,The bike is cheaply madeFit and finish are poor to dangerousCheap components(seat, fork, gearing, pedals etc.)Bike is heavyI hope the electronics are trouble-freeConcept and execution seem goodAs usual Google was great with the order and delivery,Would I buy this bike again? No. Why? It's cheaply made, and poorly assembled. I want to feel confident that my bike will stay together while I ride. I don't have confidence this bike. Imagine finding a broken spoke on the rear wheel and knowing that this seldom happens in real life. All I can do is ride it until I cant.

Not bad
Got the bike on a daily deal $599,actually received it very next day..the Battery is a lithium and the bike cane extremely well packaged (maybe the newer ones are packaged better)..however it was shipped with a front fender that is for a smaller different bike ..tried to call company and my call went strait to message saying mailbox full try back..not even any mention of the company..(it was on Saturday)..so I called amazon ,they will try to rectify on Monday ..I'll follow up

Happy with the Outback e-bike
Package arrived by UPS on time as promised, but box was badly damaged. But all the parts were there undamaged. If you are not familiar with the quick release (like I am), the front wheel installation is unclear. Through a phone call to Josh at Yukon Trail (YT) the process became very clear and the wheel went on pronto! After the required 6 hour charge the battery appeared fully charged, lights were working, rear wheel was turning under electric power, gear shift was operational and I was ready to go.TWO miles into my first trip, the pedal crank fell off. (Another reviewer had the same problem with another YT bike and has written about that.) I rode home on electric power - did not need the crank, motor worked fine. YT needs to follow up with manufacturer to make sure that the serrated flange nut holding the crank is attached and/or fastened. I did not check this nut because it was covered up by a cap. Also, apparently, the nut is not used on "newer" bikes ("newer" model bikes hold in the crank some other way?) because I could not find a replacement nut at local bike shops - they told me they would have to order it. Home Depot did not have this type of thin serrated flange nut either. An email from YT promised that the parts would be replaced as soon as I sent in bike's proof of purchase. YT did what they promised and nut & crank were FedExed the same day.I have now ridden the bike for several days and have had no problems. It is one good-looking bike! In spite of the problems I had, I still give it 5 stars. Problems got resolved quickly, what more do I want? Customer support is responsive. I think I made a good buy.The only other thing that would make me really happy is if YT lets new e-bike owners buy a second battery at a reduced price. $260 is a little spendy for a 2nd battery.Six month follow-up (9/2013): Have had this bike during the spring and summer. Riding it 3-4 times per week. Have had no problems. Take it out about 40 miles per trip. No battery use (except on extreme hills) on the way out and on pedal-assist on the way back. Only "gripe" that I have is that the bike is extremely heavy - pedal only (no battery assist) is a work-out. Keep expecting that this Chinese bike is going to fall apart but it has not happened.Along with the bike I also ordered a Bern helmet, Avenir Excursion Small Panniers and a kryptonite lock. Happy with those purchases as well.It is two years later (summer 2015) and the bike is still running well. Had some maintenance items. Spoke broke, screws in outer motor casing worked loose, replaced brakes with better ones and light stopped working. Probably just a connection - haven't had time to check it. Not happy with Yukon Trail, the company, though, see my comment below.
