Beautiful ink!
This ink is such a pretty color and it writes beautifully! It is not too light when used with a fine nib and it's depth is demonstrated really well with a medium nib!! I have not had any issues with bleeding and feathering yet, but I will update this review once I've tried it on printer paper! I have had no issues with smudging as well! ***UPDATE*** No issues with printer paper at all!!! I also did a small test with water and this ink did really well! Only some very minor bleeding but it is still very clearly legible!!! I'm very impressed!!!

So much to love about this beauty of a find.
So much to love about this ink! So I'll start with the actually ink itself: 1. The color is spectacular. Blue is my favorite color but not any blue will do. It is not those flashy, bright, overkill, bright, dance recital color blue but rather a dark denim, matte tinge blue. A blue that if I were to purchase this color dress, I would not have an issue matching it with other accessories. 2. What's not to like about a permanent ink in today's day and age with so much theft and deception going on. I did not know that regular pen ink could be washed away until recently which is one of the reasons I went on a search for a permanent ink. 3. Archival ink. I again did not know anything about archival quality until I started a few decades ago working on my ancestry and saw how ink could fade. 4. It is a good size bottle of ink. Will last me a while which is very important. NOW... the most exciting about this bottle of ink. It is made in good old New England! And so we get to support a fellow New Englander. So far I know for sure that my family is and always has been a true New Englander... residing in New England through many a war... including the Revolutionary War. And I will even go so far to say that even the box it came in is interesting. Not sure if the boxes are all the same but mine had cute little decorated pictures on it and had a fish. If you are a New Englander and have ever been Striped Bass fishing, you just know what I mean. Now they have forced me to have to go look up this regiment and learn more about it. And who knows, maybe I'll find one of my relatives served in it.

A lovely color, and permanent, but might nib-bleed on you.
Noodler's has struck on the brilliant idea of making fountain pens which are permanent by virtue of having cellulose binding compounds in them. They dye the paper much as one might dye a T-shirt. This is vastly better than inks with pigments, i.e. tiny little colored particles, in them.Three minor problems can arise. 1) It seems that a lot of surfactants have to go into this blend, and as a result it can bleed out onto the nib. It's an esthetic issue for the pen, that is all. Not a problem. 2) Noodler's is basically one fellow, Nathan Tardif. He doesn't have a massive multinational corporation's resources behind him to run quality control down to one part per thousand. There are small variations, batch to batch. But they are small. 3) In some of his formulations, the compounds in the ink will react badly with the components of a regular ink. The 54th Massachusetts has not committed this offence as far as I know, but I would be very careful to fully clean the pen before switching this ink in or out.If you want permanent ink in a fountain pen, I do not believe you can do better.

Beautiful Color but use it in a pen you use frequently.
This is a great, traditional blue. I like the water resistance, haven't had it long enough to test durability, but I trust Noodler's ratings. This formulation will dry out in pens that don't see use every few days, so I recommend it for frequent use. OK in a fine nib. When it dries, I find that dipping the nib in a few drops of water is all it takes to get things flowing again, have not had to go through major cleaning. Watch your fingers, unless you plan to audition for the Blue Man Group.

Beautiful color for signing important docs!
My first foray into fountain pens and this is the ink I chose for it. The color is a wonderful blue-black that is perfect for signing contracts and other important docs. After considerable research, this ink ticked all the boxes for me and I couldn't be happier!I'm a lefty, and this is touted as being especially quick drying. I can say from my experience that it is certainly true. I haven't stained my hand even once thus far. (I'm an overhand writer.) The ink flows smoothly and sets quickly.I'm now a fan of Noodler's Ink and will look at getting another pen to play with different colors. This first pen will live with only this ink in it for its entire life.

Worth your money to try!
I recently bought a bottle of this ink to replace my Parker Blue-Black Quink. They are both priced relatively equally; Noodler's cost more, but came with more ink. In most ways, I prefer the Noodler's.The color of this ink is absolutely fantastic. It leans slightly more toward blue than black, and is crisply legible on the page. Moreover, it has remarkable consistency between different types of paper. This is in contrast to Parker's blue black, which looked great on some papers but horribly faded on others.Another nice feature is the 'bulletproof' nature of this ink. I tested this against water, bleach, alcohol, spit, etc... and it would not budge (until there was a physical hole rubbed in the paper!) Most important is the fact that it's waterproof. I've never seen another ink so permanent, and yet it washes off of my hands easily! More than anything else, this is the number one reason to check this ink out.The behavior of this ink is moderate to good. It takes a bit of effort to prime the pen after sitting, but it also behaves well in the pen, and has yet to leak. Nib creep is a visual issue, but doesn't affect writing. One point of contention-- this ink has a noticeable odor to it as you're writing. It doesn't particularly bother me, but it could bother some people. In summary, this ink is definitely worth the price of admission. Try it!

Great ink
I really bought this ink because its waterproof and it have not let me down. It dries quickly. Also a very nice shade of blue. I'll be sticking to Noodler's brand for all my future fountain pen ink purchases.

54th Massachusetts.
1st of all: 100% waterproof.2nd: 100%Value For Money.Superb Delivery by Amazon as well as "Helloyehlo". Delivered very well packed. Great job by Fedex Courier. The ink slightly feathers, but that is normal for all waterproof inks. I have used de Atramentis dark blue/ blue and they spread much more than 54th Massachusetts.Shading: Not Found really. Finally: Fully Satisfied.

Wonderful colour
I’m new to the FP world, and have taken to its charm quickly.I do not prefer black inks but I require a professional one.I enjoy the blue/gray of this ink. It’s professional but has enough of a quirkinesses that can give you a sense of not being a corporate drone. This will be in my daily writer and will be purchased again when i run out.
