Limited Edition Colt Breaking DVD Buck Brannaman Buck's first video, Colt Breaking has been out of print for over ten years. It was discontinued after we produced Groundwork but recently Buck had the chance to view the master tape once again. Here are Buck's views on the original Brannaman Colt Breaking tape: "A number of years ago we made a video called Colt Breaking. We came across the original tape recently and I had a chance to look at it again. We shot the whole thing in a friend's round pen in California back in 1988. A lot has happened in my life since then but I thought some of you might enjoy seeing this tape. It's the original with nothing changed. We've made a Limited Edition DVD to add to your collection. Hope you enjoy it. Happy trails." -- Buck Brannaman

Even I needed a handkerchief.....
A welcome and refreshing change in the field of documentaries. We were captivated from the first frame to the last.Buck Brannaman is quite an extraordinary man in both his personal and professional life. It is evident from childhood that Buck has incredible courage and inner strength. As a man, he is blessed with the gift of true compassion and self-awareness, that he can be one on all levels with the spirit of horses. Enjoying those that share in life and encouraging with a quiet gentleness the ones given a rough start, or simply in need of training.I am not going to share anymore, for fear of spoiling this documentary that we as a family, highly recommend. For a brief overview of what to expect in this Documentary refer to film info.

Excellent
Excellent except for one part that still makes me cringe. That cringe-worthy part helped provide the scope of Buck's abilities and show us the extremes of horse ownership. Lovely story. Lovely family. GREAT joke at the end which I've told to many people for a good laugh. I recommend watching this for anyone who loves horses and/or who simply wants to see the figurative lemonade that is made by a man who was given mostly lemons early in life.

A Life Changer
After I purchase a 2 year old gelding, I left him with at rational trainer and he suffered an injury his first week! I was shocked and disgusted and brought him home and I started to look for more compassionate, non-intimidating methods to get him out of the fear he had amasses already in his young life. I looked at several natural horse training type websites and then by chance found out about Buck and purchased this documentary. It is very well made: tender and informative. I am hooked! This is an excellent documentary and I'm so happy to have found it. I think my horse companion Moon Dust will be happy too :) We have started all over again and just with the little bit I found here, Dusty has come out orchids hell with me. Next I am buying Buck's training DVD but will have to buy a DVD player first. Highly, very highly recommended for anyone who loves compassion-based relationships with animals, or who loves horses and or shares life with a horse.

The Man IS a Hero!
Not very often I feel so emotional about a documentary as this, however I can relate, although the mannerisms and techniques he uses to real life problems need to be a part of this nations Constitution! They should be applied by law and common sense to everybody and especially every childs' formative years (1-7 years). Powerful! It's been over 3 hours since I started watching and my eyes have yet to dry. A true Hero!

Deeply Moving And Inspiring
I cannot get enough of this film. It shows that from the ashes of abuse and brokenness can rise a changed and sensitive soul, such as Buck. The key is; in his life, he was pulled from the abusive situation and given safety and love which allowed him to heal as much as he could.... then as he grew, his passion for horses and how to humanely and with great sensitivity teach and train them to partner with humans in a way that benefits all. His gentleness is exquisite. His straightforward style inviting. I'm grateful for such a gifted soul to be one of my teachers.

A feel good story about a great cowboy
You don't even have to own a horse, or like horses, to enjoy this film. It was well done, telling the story of one of the greatest horsemen out there. Also a hard look at the life he lived with an abusive father, which makes this movie so good, because he used that early life to become a better person. Quite often, those who have lived an abusive, or rough life, are more aware, more sensitive to the feelings of people and animals. They have a deeper understanding of what that person or animal is feeling, because they've felt the same to the depth of their soul. This is the story of such a person. A person who is making a huge impact on people and their horses. Some scenes are not easy to watch, because they are raw truth, which makes this story even better. I didn't want it to end.

Exquisite
A life-altering film. It's like getting a glimpse of a whole new world. The story of the real-life Horse Whisperer, who advised Robert Redford on his film. Following a brutal childhood, Buck Brannaman chooses a different course and follows in the tradition of master horse trainers who respect the horse, treat it well and gently but firmly, and achieve wonderful results, at least most of the time. The film follows Brannaman around the country as he teaches others how to teach their horses. It's astounding. Beautiful.

Very interesting biography
This is a biography of BB - a real live horse whisperer. I see some of the 'bad' reviews have not understood it's primarily about the man and consequently discusses how he turned into such a kind and considerate and well-balanced human being, despite being beaten and horribly mistreated as a child. How he survived and later thrived was through his relationship with horses and with it he has learned their needs - i.e. encouragement not discouragement. There's much about horse craft too of course - and delightfully entertaining - he has a tremendous skill and makes it look easy. It's a wonderfully told story about what is an especially inspirational man. His general modesty sees him shy away from talking about himself and it is others who extol his virtues (and his childhood problems). Don't be over concerned, however, nobody dwells on his early problems for long - it's a very positive story about a very positive individual . I hope you enjoy it.

Horsing About
It's nice to see Buck at work after reading several of his books. Buck and Mark Rashid, who's book I talked about earlier, though they come from a slightly different background, have much in common in that they have both learned to understand horses. Every horse is different so there is a lot to learn, I'm sure they will both agree on that. Most so called 'Whisperers' look at horses in a slightly different way, but all have more or less the same aim, the betterment of the horse. Horses are pretty much like us in many ways and can suffer from many of the same problems. As they can't speak our language they have to find other ways of telling us what they want and we have to find ways of understanding and answering them. That is what men like Buck Brannaman have become exceptionally good at. Great DVD! Thanks .JR.

Brilliant Buck
Brilliant! Inspirational! Anyone who rides horses, is about to buy one or has any dealings with them should not only watch this video but learn and apply the techniques and principles that he uses, and the world would be a better place for horses and humans. Don't watch it thinking it is a "Hollywood happy ever after" film - it is gritty reality where not everyone has a fairytale ending, but it does show you clearly what happens when these majestic animals are treated properly or cruelly. Buck is also living proof of how you can turn a brutal childhood around instead of being one of those who do worse things than they had happen to them and just blame their upbringing on their deviant actions. Few people will have suffered the cruelty that he did, but he has turned it round to become the epitome of a calm, caring and courageous human being.

thought provoking
I have read Buck's book so was keen to watch this DVD and it was far better than the book. Be prepared to have your eyes opened to a different way to work with horses. Some of the contributers in the movie like me come from a more traditional way of schooling horses with draw reins etc to get the shape we want. Buck shows you a different way of doing this that is non harsh and allows the horse to learn what it is you want. There is one part in the movie that stands out, as it shows what happens if you dont educate your foal from day one, and allow them to teach themselves while you stay hands off.The people that attend his clinics in the movie range from weekend western riders to dressage riders to jumpers. Everyone will get something out of this movie.

this dvd came well packaged and promptly.this is a wonderful documentary about the Horse Whisperer. I first saw it on tv and wanted to give it to a friend. it is absolutely gripping-going in to this account of his abusive childhood and why he does what he does. even if you aren't that interested. in horses, it is a very human tale. brilliant.
