SEIKOPROSPEX Automatic Divers Stainless Steel Men's Watch Special SRPD21 Edition

Seiko enthusiast opinion
Having read prior reviews about the SRPD21 (Great White Shark(Shark Fin at 8 o'clock as well as shark tail seconds hand), I was a bit hesitant to order from this source. How could I possibly get a $525 MSRP 'limited edition' Seiko Turtle for $300 (purchased around new year's day, there was a sale). Clearly there had to be some sort of defect, or something was up. With these thoughts in mind, I decided to order it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to receive it just 4 days later and looking at my watch, I was a little disappointed that the box wasn't anything like my brother's Seiko Presage SRPD41J1. It wasn't ornate or white. It was just a simple box that resembled that of any Seiko 5. But then again, who values the box a watch arrives in? Anyone who owns an Orient can attest to how terrible the boxes are as an accompaniment to an otherwise fantastic timepiece. But going back to the great white turtle, it's a large watch. Those of you with smaller than average wrist will need to really consider if you want to wear it's greater than 44mm case. I myself can barely do it. Albeit, it is my largest watch in the collection. So having owned the watch less than a month, what can I say about it?The bracelet is not very good. It has solid end links which are greatly appreciated, but it has a lot of faux features (i.e. a fake 3 piece link which is a single one, terrible clasp etc.). The case itself is fantastic though. The bezel has these little cuts in it that really give depth and beauty to milled numbers within the aluminum insert. This isn't like your typical turtle which only has them painted on. The bezel's functionality is excellent. Has a little bit of play, but I think this is true of most Seiko divers. The dial of the watch is the main selling point in my opinion. It's gorgeous. Captures the imagination as you look into the tumultuous sea. A great white shark swimming across from 8 o'clock. And the seconds hand is super cool. As far as I know, this generation Save the Ocean line from Seiko is the only type that utilizes the shark tail counter balance on its second hand. The crown of the watch is standard. Nothing different. The accuracy of my piece is minus 3 seconds per day. It's amazing. Easily my most accurate mechanical/automatic. I don't regulate my pieces, nothing. That's why it has become my daily now. One negative about this particular example is very small, minute even, misalignment of the chapter ring. But it's not enough to the point that I go crazy. So if I had to sum up this rant and give it a score out of 10, the Seiko SRPD21, GREAT WHITE SHARK, earns a 8/10. Mine didn't come with a rubber strap, and the original bracelet isn't great. So that's where I'm dinging it. Looks great on a NATO and silicone strap though. Oh, lume is good, but on my example it disappears quickly. Your results may vary.

Check which model you're wanting to buy!
I'll preface my review by noting this ad listing is for the SRPD21 Turtle pictured rather than the SRPD23 Samurai described in the text. The hour markers, the minutes and hours hand, and the movement is different on the Samurai. The Turtle uses the 4R36 (with date and day complication) movement whereas the Samurai uses the 4R35 (date only). Please be mindful of this when placing an order. That said, it's even more gorgeous 'in the metal' than it appears online, in my opinion, and the Turtle case wears very comfortably on-wrist.The oyster-type bracelet uses those infernal pins and collars (pins and pipes, as Seiko calls them) so sizing the bracelet, if necessary, is a bit more tedious than doing one with simple friction pins only. Once sized, however, it's one of Seiko's better factory-supplied bracelets.Outside of that, what needs to be said? Rock-solid workhorse movement (mine shows well within stated tolerances running at +4 to 5 secs/day), a nice bracelet, ISO-certified dive watch, and a gorgeous conversation-starting dial. People will take notice of it when you wear it. (make certain they don't miss the shark fin just right of the 8 o'clock marker)Seiko knocked one out of the park with this one. :)

As advertised, looks great and keeps accurate time.
So far, I have been very pleased with my new watch. It looks great, and is keeping amazing time. I have been wearing it for four days now, and it has gained about six seconds in total. My watch doesn't seem to have the bezel alignment problem that people have complained about. To my eyes anyway, the bezel is spot on. One thing I was worried about was the length of the band, which I couldn't find listed anywhere. I have an 8.25" wrist, which apparently is fairly large. Out of the box, the band was a little loose, so I would guess it could fit up to about 8.5" wrists. Using the micro-adjustment on the clasp, I was able to make the band fit perfectly, without removing any links. The watch shipped promptly, and there were no problems with packaging or delivery.

Very pleased.
I received the watch early, which was great. I was a little worried about the alignment after reading reviews, but the alignment on this one is perfect. I am very pleased with the purchase.Update: This is the next day and I have checked the regulation using the WatchCheck app and it is very good for a mechanical watch at +1.9 s/d.Update 10 days after delivery: I am still very happy with the watch. The Seiko bracelet is frustrating due to the "pins and pipes". I have never been a fan of these. I put it on a Z22 silicone band I had until my order comes in for an after-market bracelet (with screw pins). Regulation is currently +1.5 sec/day.

Alignment
Bad alignment at 12 and 6. Could not do an exchange, I tried, could only do a refund. Too bad because the price was nice and I wanted this model, now they’ve gone back up.

Beautiful watch but
Has the pin and sleeve bracelet, which sucks!

The watch is great, but the bracelet is junk.
The watch itself is what I expected. There is a misalignment of the dial w/ the inner bezel, but this seems to be norm for Seikos. The bracelet is atrocious. I tried resizing it to fit my wrist, and every single pin that was removed from the links came out in two pieces, making it impossible to put back(it just fell out). For a $300 price point, this is not acceptable for me. There should be no cutting cost on the cheapest part of the product(horrible links). I am giving this 2 stars because of the watch itself, but the bracelet ruined the whole experience.

Es excelente! ✌🏼
