The real draw here is the lovely, detailed illustrations.
This is a cute, whimsical books about an intuitive little boy named Arthur. Arthur is very curious, which gets him and his village into trouble. His inquisitiveness and quick-thinking also ends up solving the big problem. The story weaves together Norse myths with an unlikely young hero at the helm.It is a quick read with a positive message. Both my 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter enjoyed listening and requested it again. My tween daughter thought the story was cute, too. It is a nice-sized hardcover book, and my son especially liked the metallic golden rope looping around the cover. The real draw here is the lovely, detailed illustrations. My kids enjoyed looking at them after we read the story, pointing out little details they'd missed.I hope Joe Todd-Stanton continues Arthur's adventure with a follow-up book!

Excellent illustrations & captivating story
My 5 year old loved this book! It broadened his vocabulary, taught him about mythical times & creatures, kept his attention for 45 minutes, and the heroine teaches about bravery. The illustrations are just as exciting as the reading and we found lots of little treasures in the pictures. I noticed my son was loosing interest in reading and this was able to draw him in and captivated him without screen time. WIN!!

Great children's story!
I picked up this book because the main character shares his name with my son, but I was really happy to find a great story with clever problem solving by the main character. We went ahead and bought the other Brownstone's book, which I liked even more! If you like Hilda and/or Norse mythology, you and your kids will love this book.

Fear was a defining influence leading to destruction of the majority of the beautiful forests in the Northern countries
gorgeous book that reinforces the history of English language children's literature. The story is strong throughout. Shakespeare was a minor influence compared toNorse and Icelandic story telling. I often tell my library students about why so muchdeforestation happened over Europe and New England. Fear was a defininginfluence leading to destruction of the majority of the beautiful forests in the Northerncountries.

“Welcome Young Traveller!”
This is the first in a series of extremely charming graphic novels that depict the adventures of the Brownstones: a family that go in search of rare artefacts from the various myths and legends that are told around the world. Narrated by a bespeckled professor from the depths of the Brownstone vault, each story tells the tale of a young child and their extraordinary journeys. This one is about Arthur Brownstone, a young boy living in an Icelandic village that’s warmed by a massive torch situated in the town square. But one day a giant black wolf attacks his home and dowses the flames, leaving the village in cold and darkness.Arthur volunteers to go on a quest to the home of the Norse gods, where Thor – the god of sky and thunder – can be called upon to relight the great flame. But Thor has one condition to Arthur’s request: that he’ll help him capture the great wolf Fenrir. And to do that, Arthur must collect two strange ingredients: the sound of a cat’s footfall and the roots of a mountain. To say much more would be to give away the rest of the story, but I don’t think I’ve been so delighted by a children’s graphic novel since Luke Pearson’s “Hilda” books. Come to think of it, they’re very similar in a lot of respects, from the Norwegian source material to the style and colouring of the illustrations. The best thing about this story (and the ones that follow it) are that they essentially retell an ancient myth with a young child as its protagonists. Most readers of Norse (or Egyptian or Chinese) mythology will recognize the elements of this story: Fenrir the wolf, the impossible ingredients to a spell, the way in which the gods capture the monster; but in this case it’s cleverly restructured around the timid yet tenacious Arthur. And the illustrations are exceptional. There’s so much detail, from the artefacts on the shelves to the people in the crowds, though my favourites would have to be the two-page spreads which show a particular vista or location (like a library or archipelago) that’s dotted with images of Arthur struggling his way through them. You could probably spend hours poring over them.Brownstone’s Mythical Collection are fun, beautiful and informative books that will unknowingly teach younger readers about various cultures and mythologies. They’d make a great gift, especially for fans of the aforementioned “Hilda” books.

Una historia de aventura y comedia, combinada con mitología nórdica. Creo que es un libro increíblemente ilustrado que atrapa a niños y no tan niños. Llegó en las mejores condiciones, libro en pasta dura.
