Ever notice that all the nutrition bars out there are sweet? Well, if you're looking for something truly different, truly savory, then you've come to the right place. Journey bar has created a completely savory line of nutrition bars, so you won't find candy-bar-like flavors here. Because Journey bars are savory, theyโre also naturally lower in sugar.

The idea of a savory bar is radical--the American palate seems to react strongly against such new configurations. The idea of a "bar" is so solidly embedded in our minds, that I can understand why "health bars" are still completely saturated with sugar, or some sort of fun looking topping, as if trying to imitate Snickers/random candy instead of being its own thing. The "gross" comment is insulting, really--this bar is actually my favorite. (Coconut Curry or Rosemary). Living in NYC finds one perhaps too often reaching for shakes or bars to get some calories in before the next 'big thing'. The dearth of whole food portable options is kind of appalling. I've been trying to bake, to compensate. These bars are wonderful, except they're hard to find. They do still feel a bit processed and flat, but I'm starting to think this is the nature of anything that must be preserved over long periods of time.In any case, it's really the only bar option that doesn't pander to the now-anachronistic American sweet tooth of yore. If they could add to their repertoir some sort of bread version of these, with fruit spread in the middle, that would be the icing on the cake. So to speak.

Still quite sweet
I realize these are "lower" in sugar than many nutrition bars but I found they are still on the sweet side which surprised me when I first took a bite. They do have a good soft and chewy texture if that is that you are looking for and I think I would like to try other flavors. The strong herbal flavor of rosemary with that undertone of sweetness was a bit off-putting for me personally. If you are looking for something without any sweetness at all I would recommend trying another brand. I understand some of the sweetness will come from the grains but these were sweeter than I thought they might be after reading the ingredients.

GROSS
These bars are so bizarre, both in taste and texture. I was expecting "very crunchy" because of the other reviewers. They are not "very crunchy" or even slightly crunchy. They are chewy like a brownie or a cookie. The flavor is either actually rancid, or they were aiming for a rancid pizza flavor (in which case, mission accomplished). The flavor is rancid/savory with a strong undertone of sweetness. They are every bit as sweet as they are savory, and it's basically a cookie-like grain cake. Which is strange with a pizza flavor. Nothing about these bars are successful. Unless you're looking for a diet, because these will make you lose your appetite.

Good, but original recipe was much better.
I loved the original recipe of this bar. I don't remember the ingredient change (I think other buyers have highlighted this in other reviews) but it definitely affected the quality. That being said, it is still a great bar for those that don't want a sugar laden experience like you get from clif bar or powerbar.

Savory goodness
These are a nice alternative to the usual "meal" bars which are largely candy bars with a bit of grain. These savory bars really are a meal in a bar with protein, fat and carbohydrate. I was surprised that the texture is more chewy than crunchy with just a bit of underlying crunch from the grains.

Nice but not the best
Nice bar, I need gluten-free bars (these are) and low or no-sugar bars (these are). Coconut curry sounds exotic, but I prefer the sea salt variety. It is a matter of taste. The bars provide good nutrition and don't contain any offending items. If you are not familiar with them, perhaps try the variety pack.

taste is terrible
Tastes like maggi cubes. It is eatable but I don't enjoy it at all.I'm still looking for a savory snack for long bicycle rides. My choice for now is "finn crisp caraway rye crispbread". It tastes perfect but not so convenient to consume on the go. Would like to hear if anyone has find something better than crispbread.

I wanted to like these, but they are just not very good
I wanted to like these, but they are just not very good. The texture is OK, but they have a weird taste that is stronger in some bites than others...almost like nutmeg, but not. Will continue my search for a savory protein bar.
