Create Rapid Web Applications Using Oracle Application Express (Oracle Application Express (APEX))

I've bought this book after having seen the two 5 star ratings. I've been developing database applications including Oracle for many years and was interested in the new technology. The book focuses on the application development only by providing precise information what to do. I's correct, but an explanation of the principles applied before explaining the recipe would be more straight forward.An explanation of how to create database objects like tables instead of using the default demo would be an appropriate starting point. Instead of using the demo I'd expect a chapter about how to set up the database objects. The demo can be started right away and doesn't need any coverage in the book - just try and explore on the sample cloud work space.Oracle are offering a cloud apex database f.o.c for developers, which is extremely convenient to start with and can be accessed and used from any device having a compatible browser.Room for improvement.

The book appeared to be based on APEX 4.1, however, tried to follow the book through 4.2 installation can be a little challenge as Oracle did make some changes to their landmark sample application and it is challenge to follow and reproduce based on what was changed. I would not say it is Ahmed's fault but really wish that Oracle provide a option of using a older sample application especially for intermittent version changes.The bad part of the book was that it show you how to build the application but does not goes through the underlying principle first. In many incident, you would do something and would find out only in a few chapters later exactly what and why something happened.

The kindle version of this book is unreadable. Text is jumbled, tables appear as text, and text indentation is so bad that I had to read a few lines twice to make any sense. I haven't been able to get past the first few pages. This is a complete waste of my money. I would have given 0 stars if that were an option.

There are lots of instructions that say, "Click-this, select that" but no real description of what the effect of those actions are. This is just an online tutorial with some slickness added to it. There's little value here.

Finally, one hard-copy, written in English, without all the technical jargon (like the little kids from South Park) -- located under one volume (instead of 15 thousand online pages, written by geeks) that a person can use, from cover-to-cover and DO something meaningful.

first things first, the sample used in the book is already history. The new sample provided in the new version of APEX is different.Secondly, I found the book to be of little or no help in designing my own application.More background information on the various aspects of apex is needed. There is very little on charting for example. Anyone could have written this book to be honest.I agree with the other reviewer that the book should come with a cd, the custom_hash and custom_auth which i had to type out, in the end didnt even work,so good luck if one of the reasons you are buying the book is to learn how to do custom authentication.the book is also riddled with grammar mistakes and is not as clear as it could be.

I started following the book to create the example application, but discovered that the tables required were not part of the Oracle 11g installation that I had at my disposal. I also could not find them on the web, so was left at a barrier if I was to understand the authentication/authorisation sections.Secondly, printing pages of code to enter by hand....?The book would greatly benefit from a URL or CD with the sample code and the database schema.

This book containts Step By Step guide each novice needs to begin with.I would highly recommend this book to the beginners willing to learn APEX.
