Emotional Trilogy
An impressive grip on the generational timeline. Again there's a feeling that the world is just a bit too small, that only a handful occupy it. That aside, Husband is a master of forcing sympathy. Her greatest strength is the subtle movements characters make in conversation. My biggest complaint is the deviation from gay romance\love in the first book. That's why I personally started the series, so it was sad to see that take second fiddle to a hetero romance.

Fantastic reading.
It is a trilogy and I read it in one weekend. I would give it five stars if the editor had taken the few inconsistencies out: the main character has been in prison two years, in another book three. Another character is 26 years of age, a few weeks later he is 25. There are also two or three 'Kindle' spellings. But it is compelling reading, reminiscent of Hollinghurst and Elisabeth Jane Howard. Fantastic reading.

Part of a delightful trilogy
I found "The Boy I Love" (the first book in this trilogy), read a "Sample", and was hooked. Marion Husband is a very fluent writer, with excellent plot and character development, and a few surprises. These books are a treat for those who like writing about British soldiers, sailors, and civilians during the first and second World Wars, with excellent character development of gay men whose lives intersect with each other and with a few lively women. This is gay-themed writing in the spirit of Mary Renault.

A gem of a book and worthy end to a great trilogy
I finally finished the last book of the Boy I Love trilogy by Marion Husband. My only regret is not having read this sooner. Husband draws to conclusion the complex and moving lives of several characters from the previous books as well as introducing us to new one.She has a spare, unflinching style that she has used to great effect. Her male characters are rich and complex , and she has a genuine understanding of the difficulties of being gay in a time when homosexuality was still , sadly, illegal. .She perfectly evokes the drab austerity of the post-war years and her characters' efforts to find happiness, solace and acceptance in a Britain still governed by class, sexual and gender prejudice.Rarely have I read a more satisfying book. I am not a fan of sequels , trilogies and the like, but this book and its predecessors have been deeply moving and compelling to read. Husband is truly gifted and I look forward to reading more from her. Recommended.

Worth the wait.
This is one of the best books I've read, and as an English student, I've read a few.One of the best things about this book was the characterisations. All the characters were very realistic and I empathised with most of them to an extent. The writing was impressive; it's not exactly 'easy reading' because it deals with some pretty difficult issues, but I never found myself wondering what was going on. The plot was very well developed; it was quite intricate and I thought it a little unbelievable that so many of the characters had such close links to each other, but it was certainly interesting and gave me a lot to think about. The only thing that prevents me from giving this book 5 stars is that it did take a while to get into. I dutifully read it at first because I'd paid money for it, but by chapter 5 I was hooked and the read the rest of the book in two hours - I couldn't put it down. I do think, however, that a large part of this is because I haven't read the prequel so I wasn't sure who the characters were or what the context of the novel was. Now I know a bit more about the prequel, it makes a lot more sense.Overall, this book is an excellent read as long as you're willing to put the effort in to really submerge yourself in the first few chapters.

Wonderful Book
This book was SUCH a pleasant surprise for me. I originally bought it after reading 'The Boy I Love' (another book by Marion) and finding out that I would hear more about the characters in the previous book in this one. What I didn't expect was to fall so in love with the characters here too!Although I read this after the first book this can easily be read as a stand alone read. But for optimum enjoyment I would recommend that you read 'The Boy I Love' first. If you do that you find that you the reader know more about Bobby's life than he does.I can honestly say that Marion once again drew me into this world, her characters were three dimensional, none more so than Bobby himself. He was such a wonderful character I challenge anyone not to love him. The realism in these books make the endings impossible to predict too, which is always a bonus. I can't recommend this more highly.

Prose poetry for the soul
I love the 'Boy I Love' books, and although this story focuses more on the second generation, I enjoyed it just as much. Husband's writing is simply gorgeous, and once again she weaves a story which, once read, cannot be forgotten.

La suite de "The boy I love"
J'ai éprouvé un immense plaisir à retrouver les protagonistes de "The boy I love" dont le destin est ici scellé. Bobby, le personnage central, est bouleversant, et le style de Marion Husband toujours aussi accrocheur.
