The bike that I bought several years ago came with a bell mounted to the handle bars. Honestly, it baffled me when I first got the bike, wondering why an adult bike would come with a child's ringer. As I've learned the etiquette a little better and ridden in areas with mixed cycle and pedestrian traffic, I'd come to appreciate that bell as a signal to alert others of my approach.That original bell was pretty poorly made and the knocker became twisted to where it was almost impossible to get it to ring. My handle bars are already cluttered with a reflector, front light, and mount for my mobile phone, so the low profile nature of this bell was appealing. It was pretty easy to install and fits well between the rubber grips on my handle bar and the gear selector. I've been able to easily and reliably ring it with my thumb without having to look, once I got used to the arrangement.

I wanted a subtle item on my bicycle, both in the profile and the sound. I've always thought bikers need a "polite" little, bell to let walkers know you're behind them without shocking them or their dogs, and perhaps something a bit louder for emergencies and getting the attention of automobiles.

Granddaughter loves it -- not to load, but enough to get the attention of someone you are approaching. Simple and effective especially for the price!!
