Here Comes Civilization: The Complete Science Fiction of William Tenn, Volume 2

Enjoyable stories, with twists of their own!
Finished this book last night. Despite the author's claim that it contained inferior works, or works that HAD to be written for rent or food, I found most of the stories vastly enjoyable. The novel and the novella were tricky, since the thrust kept on changing (as admitted by the author in his interesting end-words), and the endings remained somewhat open (which perhaps adds to their allure, since they were unpredictably different from contemporary pulp fiction). Overall, I enjoyed the stories. Readers with a penchant for stories written by Eric Frank Russell and Robert Sheckley should lap up this wonderful volume brought out by NESFA press. Highly recommended.

(Several) Blasts from the past
I'm a longtime fan of this author, whose work I find very entertaining. I especially enjoy his wit and wry depictions of all manner of encounters.I find 40's through mid-60's science fiction to be the most readable and entertaining of the entire genre. For my taste, the technical details are not as interesting as their effects on the characters.

Another Classic SF Author Rescued From (Near) Oblivion
This volume is one of NESFA's superlative "Choice" series, a series dedicated to bringing back into print the works of many of SF's classic authors who are in danger of being forgotten. If you are a fan of classic SF from the 1940s, '50, and '60s, this book (and its companion, "Immodest Proposals") should be in your collection. William Tenn is a delightful writer!

Paradigmatic, memorable stories
William Tenn is not forgotten, as witnessed by the publication of these two collections, but is not nearly as well known as he should be. This seems to be because he is primarily a short-story writer, and all the kudos go to novelists. But Asimov and Clarke are also justly celebrated for the paradigmatic short stories such as "Nightfall" and "The Nine Billion Names of God". Tenn wrote many more such than either Asimov or Clarke, and deserves to be read accordingly.I first read "The Discovery of Morniel Mathaway", "Lisbon Cubed", and "The Masculinist Revolt" around thiry years ago, but never forgot them: they're THAT original, and THAT well executed.
