Chung Jung One O'Food Mild Gochujang 1.1lb, Korean Red Chili Pepper Paste, Spicy, Sweet and Savory Sauce, Traditional Fermented Condiment, 100% Brown Rice

While it is my goal to make Kimchi from scratch, using rice flour, Korean spices, garlic, onion, rice wine vinegar, etc. for the Gochujang, I decided to start simple and use this premade paste. Packaging was tight and undamaged. Oddly, it doesn't have the strong smell you'd expect, but WOW does it pack a ton of flavor! I chose the "Hot," because I like spicy Kimchi. I tasted it fresh, prior to fermentation, and it was delicious! I did add about a teaspoon of seat salt for the perfect flavor. Currently waiting 7 days for it to ferment!

This gochujang has the perfect blend of mild heat, sweetness, and rich umami flavor. You can really taste the quality, and the 100% brown rice gives it a clean, authentic taste. The 1.1 lb size is generous and lasts a long time, making it a great value. Perfect for bibimbap, marinades, or dipping—definitely a staple in my kitchen now!

I'm not a fan of spicy so this has just the right amount of heat for me...a small kick but not so much that I can't enjoy my meal. At first I wasn't sure what to do with it....bought it for a recipe I was trying...but after tasting it I've been using it in all sorts of dishes for a little extra flavor. I hate using umami but it's true....it's that "not sure what it is" flavor that just makes everything taste better!
