Great machine
Amazingly looking laptop, fantastic for gaming. I've had issues with their own software, but the laptop itself 10/10.

Faulty old stock
Beware - despite the high price tag - don’t expect high quality. The laptop I received was faulty. Upon switching on for the first time - I got a blue screen of death. After googling the stop code, I found out it was a hardware issue. Don’t buy laptops from Amazon.

DON'T buy one of these through Amazon (Area 51m)
I bought the A51m R1 in 2019 on here (pay no attention to the model listed for this review, it's been recorded incorrectly) and it's been nothing but trouble, plus you're paying more money for less features and a shorter warranty than you'd get through DELL directly. Mine didn't even come with G-Sync, had an i7-8700, and cost £500 more than the same model WITH G-Sync and an i9-9900 on the official DELL site at the SAME time. Boy did I feel dumb. The laptop itself is GREAT (on paper) btw, just gotta keep on top of the cooling. I have yet to encounter a game that this thing can't handle at 60fps with raytracing enabled. Well.. maybe some, nowadays., I've had several things melt down on me less than a month after the warranty expired... conveniently. Grab a KLIM Airflow (or similar, whatever) and a heatsink for the NVMe drive/s is my advice. This thing isn't meant to be "portable" beyond being a literal desktop that's able to fit it into a 17" carrying case/backpack to lug around, so don't treat it like a Chromebook lol. When you take it anywhere, it's more like taking your mini-tower to a LAN party than having a trendy accessory in your purse. It's got a 90WH high capacity battery, but at full power it'll only last you half an hour -- you _really_ need to plug it in (with both plugs lol). But it fits into a briefcase and has shiny lights and goes real fast and makes you feel superior, so that's worth it. The best role for this laptop, in my opinion, is sitting underneath a big new TV with a Roccat Sova lapboard on the couch. That's what I did with mine anyway. It's also nice for "portable" VR without a wireless headset, like if you want to take it around to friends. Got a lot of mileage out of the Oculus Rift S thanks to this.As usual with Alienware -- you're mostly paying for the brand. If DELL is Nissan, then Alienware is Nismo. The R1 and R2 already can't be upgraded anymore beyond the RTX20 series of GPUs (at least without their proprietary "Graphics Amplifier" external GPU "dock"), let's hope the R3 will restore some faith in the "desktop replacement laptop" dream, I'm sorry to those of you who like me thought that this would be a freely upgradable platform for the foreseeable future.
