Steel Heavy Duty Stapler, 240 Sheets High Capacity (SH-50LA)

I don't normally review items that I purchase such as a stapler, but this is the best heavy duty stapler for a small office I have ever seen. We were going through heavy duty staplers made by other companies such as Swingline, etc. every couple of months due to heavy usage and employees were breaking them trying to clear jams. Tonight I found a whole pencil stuck this stapler from someone trying to clear jams.I cleared the mangled staples out roughly with a screwdriver, got the pencil out and it works great. This thing is tough...seriously, which is why I wrote a review. Stop buying stuff that breaks and get this stapler.

So today I received the Desert Song Steel Heavy Duty Stapler. Seems substantial enough for my needs, except that the raised black plastic stop bar (see pics) that controls how far from the edge of the paper the staple is to be inserted, is too loose. It glides along the opening and should abruptly stop at each indented hashmark. It does pause very slightly, but is entirely ineffectual when stapling 100-200 pages of stacked paper. It moves back every time and requires you to manually hold the back of the stop bar with one hand while pressing the staple lever down with the other. The underside of the black plastic stop bar is held in place in the slot by spring tension, so there is no way to tighten or lock the stop bar in place at the desired setting. Returning this item as defective!

This is a really sturdy looking stapler that handles thick bundles of paper easily. I've used it only to test so far, but it appears to be perfect for my needs. The reviewer who complains about it being difficult to load apparently did not notice that simple to follow instructions are on the box. I didn't see them at first, either.Update: I've now used the stapler several times, to fasten multiple copies of a 70-page essay. It works effortlessly and could easily staple a much larger stack of paper. As others have noted, however, the black plastic paper guide is useless as supplied, because all it takes is very light pressure to move it. Given the lower price of the stapler, I don't mind finding a solution from my workbench. Duct tape anyone? It works for McGuyver.

Didn't last long

I ordered this item twice. The first time, I got defective item. When I used it, one side of stapler was always crook. So, I returned it.Then I ordered this item the second time. It worked really good. I have no problem with staple anymore. I wanna buy more for my office!<3 <3 <3

I really wanted this to work and would still like this stapler to work for me. It just jams way too often. I have been reduced to using the old Swingline high capacity heavy duty stapler I was trying to replace because of a break in the metal plate the staples are pushed down on.As for the Desert Song not only would it jam often, it would for some reason not staple strait down but rather more at an angle.

For long staples, e.g. 15/16 inches, it almost doesn't work! Otherwise, it works good.

This product must be defective. The staples load but do not go down far enough to be used. There is something stopping them. "Effortless Operation" needs to be taken off this box. Unfortunately, I missed my window of opportunity to return it, because I was trying to get it to work and thinking I must be doing something wrong. Now I am stuck with a useless piece of equipment.
