Spectrum tube is used for demonstrating spectral lines of pure substances and contains iodine (I) vapour under pressure to produce light for spectral analysis. The tube has a 10.0cm capillary in the center for observing light wavelengths, and is straight form with side electrodes for conductivity. The tube measures 26.0cm (H), and is made of glass for transparency and resistance to heat. (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point.) Glass is an inert brittle solid, heat-resistant, and typically transparent. It is relatively easily cut and shaped. The tube requires a spectrum tube power supply for operation (sold separately), and should be operated at 30-second on/off intervals for longer product life and safer use. The tube is suitable for high school or college students, or ages 13 to 21.
