Don't waste your money on this dog door
I don't usually write bad reviews, but this time I feel inclined due to the money I am out. This was purchased for my Labador Retriever and Rhodesian Ridgeback and we purchased the XL X-Treme dog door. Both dogs are under 90 lbs.I purchased this dog door in May of 2020 when we were stuck in quarantine and I wanted to get a new exterior door that went from my garage to the outside. I did some research, but clearly not enough. The dog door worked fine during the warmer weather....with a name like X-Treme, I would think it could handle WI up/down hot/cold weather....clearly not. The flaps get super hard and brittle in the cold weather. Around October, the one flap started ripping. It is a poor design as it is connected, with very little material, on the inside of the dog door and not to the outside of the exterior frame where you could have more material holding it in, we had challenges with both flaps ripping when it got cold. Okay, benefit of the doubt, we will get new ones as maybe those ones were defective. After several times of going back and forth, the company sent me two new flaps. I am going from memory so I would say that we received the new flaps around Thanksgiving 2020. My husband installed them, per the directions, and as of 1/4/2021, the flaps were ripping again. Once they start ripping, the dog can no longer go in and out of the door because the way the flaps hang.Unlike most things, I can't just return the dog door. I looked online and now I am going to have a heck of a time trying to find one to fit within that hole so I don't have to buy a new door. Remember, I just bought the door last May. I emailed the company and the person that responded stated, "It is well past the 30 day return policy but we will approve this." "Go ahead and send the door back and once you can provide info that the door is on it's way via a tracking number we can get a refund going." Now I need to pay for shipping, no longer have the box it came in, and then you will be more than happy to refund it?!? What about the hole that would now be in my new door?My husband ended up going to the local hardware store and buying items to salvage this mess for as long as possible. Again, more money that I have to spend since the frame was okay. If you want a dog door to last, please look at another company. The response that I go above shows that they don't really care. What would they have done with the broken dog door anyways? I will not purchase from this company again and I advise you not to as well.

Positive update-Mixed effectiveness
I liked the size as I have greyhounds BUT the flaps are not effective for multiple dogs or if live in a high wind area. The flaps to not hold up then you have to buy new ones that are at least for me $40.00 EACH so that means each flap cost 20% of what the door cost. To me that is expensive seeing as I have to replace one flap in under 6 months. The other thing is that I had to go to the manufacturer for a replacement flap as they are not available on Amazon. Lesson learned would not buy this again.UPDATE 06/04/2021 I just received the new flap that I ordered from the manufacturer and had to tell everyone that it included BOTH flaps for the cost. The other great thing is that they have a re-enforcement metal like covering at the top where the screws hold it in the frame. I think that will help the flaps to be able to put up with the wind and wear and tear of multiple dogs going in and out. Felt this was important.

I cannot recommend this dog door
Although it is made of quality materials, the template for cutting the door hole is terribly innaccurate. After paying close attention to cut the hole exactly per my tracing, when I trial fitted the door in the hole it was absurdly loose. I measured the slop at about 1/2 inch all the way around. If I had used the screws provided to drill through the door sleeves that fit together, the frame would have been bent as the screws pulled the inner sleeves against the inside of the hole. I ended up shimming the hole with scraps of wood to achieve a snug fit. I was so dissappointed I almost sent it back, but what would I have done with an oversized hole in my door? Also, when I finally modified the hole to fit and got the door installed I noticed a gap between the flaps and the side of the hole. The magnets keep the flap from moving, but the magnets only touch on the left side, not the right and I can see the outside through the crack.Overall the aluminum frame seems well-made, and the two flaps are heavy duty, but what good are quality components if the tolerances are not tight, and the provided template is that far off causing installation failure? This company clearly has not played attention to details that could have made a more weather proof product and a snug install. Not impressed at all. Cannot really recommend this product for over $200.

Easy to install
This dog door was really easy to install. It came with a template to help with cutting out the hole in my door. Once cut, installing was just so easy. Once it was in, I did have to retrain my dogs as they were not used to having this big of a door. I have a chihuahua mix and a lab mix and I ordered the XL. I should have ordered the large because that would have been big enough but I'm glad that it's big enough for them. I ordered the double flap and noticed it keeps the hot air out and the cold air in. Since it's already almost gotten almost 100 degrees, we have definitely noticed a difference in our kitchen. It took awhile for our dogs to get used to the double flap door but the lab mix did get it before the chihuahua. Now both of them go through it like nothing.
