Good series
Filled with action, adventure, lots of guns and explosions. Also has "make you stop and realize" moments that hit you in the heart. Well worth reading.

Could not put it down!
Each time I finished one I just had to get the next one. Did not want to stop reading.

What an amazing series so far (reviews of book 1 - 6)
When I read book one, I thought of “Starship Troopers” meets “All Quiet in the Western Front”. The whole roughness of boot camp, a main character that hasn’t realized that the love of his life is literally living with him while having a range of emotional depth. Books 2 - 6 made the series its own. Moving to the next books to see what happens to our heroes.

Awesome series - right blend of triumph over evil with loss on the journey
Great story development - interesting characters - high victories and low defeats - death and loss balanced by victory and perseverance - highly recommend

Daniel Arenson writes great books!
I just started this series (I am only 2 pages in) but I already know I am going to love this series! I have read the Requiem trilogies and enjoyed being pulled into the story. I had trouble putting them down. I know these books will be the same way.

Switches genres mid stream
The books start strong and clear. Military sci-fi after apocalyptic event.Books one to three are consistent and have good character and story development. All falls apart from book four onward. We add strong elements of mysticism and phantasy. Plot line declines, huge logic gaps are introduced. For example a million year old civilization that can create black holes and whole planet on a whim cannot deal with an upstart that is less than 30 years old. Bithrates with timeliness also are Fubar. Cannot create that many enemies in that time. And the list goes on and on. In short the story is saved by some prophecy / rumor that is conveniently introduced.A cop out plot. Hard to read the last books. The super box set has its problem of formatting and position keeping. You frequently loose your reading position, cannot navigate between pages or chapters as the find function will jump somewhere different. It will force you to scroll page to page to get back to you reading position.Lots of bugs in these books literally and figuratively.

Started well but then deteriorated after book 3
The first three books are pretty gripping. The characters develop well and the story is fun and engaging. Some decent twists and turns and characters dealing with complex situations and emotions.Unfortunately as soon as the ‘scum’ are defeated, the next books felt like they went off the rails and were being written just for the sake of writing more books. Also the descriptions in the combat scenes became a bit repetitive and eventually unimaginative, just relying on gory & bloodthirsty without creating any real tension, like the writer got tired of thinking up new things.Whilst I understand the main protagonists need to survive, it seemed that from book 2 onwards, they seemed to survive rather too easily when other more experienced fighters got picked off like amateurs.Maybe the stars of the book are just lucky?

Quite dark
I enjoyed this set of six books. It is far from typical space opera and has some quite interesting ideas. It strikes me as being a fair bit darker, more depressing than one normally finds in this genre. Characters die with regularity. An enjoyable read! But not for a relaxing holiday at pool side. I won’t read the next book in the series, at least for now. Honestly the teaser at the end of book six put me off. It struck me as being very close to the teaser at the end of book three, almost exactly the same, and I am concerned that the series is getting a bit same old same old. If you enjoy unusual sci fantasy, this is for you, but perhaps the author should have called a halt even before book four.

Sci-fi at its best!
Kept me interested from beginning to end. Sympathetic characters even when some were incredibly annoying! No such thing as a happy ending as yet but where there’s life……..

There is a limit!
I read books 1 to 3 OK. I enjoyed the storyline. However when I realised that he intended to do it all again with a different set of villains I began to wonder. However I read books 4 to 6 but I did have to persist when getting a bit fed up with it all.The last bit of Book 6 is an intro to the next set of villains which just makes me think enough is enough. having checked, I see the series is up to Book 12. This is a good idea taken to extremes so that eventually it becomes boring!!

Earthrise box set books 1-6
A tremendous huge fun read about a small group of people who have an enormous impact on things happening around them, book 5 is harder to get through, but in book 6 it all starts to come together again. I really enjoyed following their adventures, I am now about to download book 7.
